I'm glad they are making another movie because my son and I enjoyed the last one but I fail to see how this movie plot is like the plot of Shrek 2? Will someone enlighten me please?

Don't you remember in Shrek 2, Shrek and Fiona returned home after thier honeymoon and they got a summonce to come to the Kingdom of Far Far Away which was Fiona's home kingdom to visit the King and Queen a.k.a. Mom & Dad. Donkey came with them. After a family dinner, Fiona becomes upset and Shrek realizes she may not be happy with an ogre as a husband. So he and Donkey go on a journey to see the Fairy Godmother and get a "Happily Ever After" like Fairy Tales are supposed to have. But the Fairy Godmother's son Prince Charming became confused after coming to the tower where Princess Fiona was locked away in the first movie and sees The Big Bad Wolf who tells him that the princess was saved by Shrek and got married and he wants revenge. So, Price Charming tries to do away with Shrek by hiring Puss In Boots, a liscensed ogre killer to wipe out Shrek. But, he winds up befriending Shrek and Donky and going on thier journey with them. The Fairy Godmother also tries to do away with Shrek telling him "Ogres don't live Happily Ever After." So they steal a Happily Ever After potion from the Fairy Godmother's potion factory and Shrek and Donkey drink some. Donkey becomes a stallion and Shrek and Fiona become human. Later, Shrek is locked away so that he cannot interfere with the forced re-marrige of Fiona to Charming. But the other Fairy Tale charecters bust Shrek Donkey and Puss out of jail and they raid the royal ball where the Fairy Godmother is killed and the magic love spell given to Fiona that will make her fall in love with the first guy she kisses takes effect on Shrek instead of Charming.

Thanks for the summery. I have Shrek 2 on dvd and I am very familiar with the plot. I see it now but I guess when I replied to the post at 2 something this morning I was really tired.
I think it's dumb how so many sequels are made these days. If a movie is relatively popular, it automatically gets a sequel just to make a quick buck. Where's the originality? I'd like to see fewer, quality movies made instead of sequels being pumped out every weekend.
But hey, what do I know? Maybe this one is actually justified and will be decent.

I thought it was really good. I have always liked the movies that the creators of Shrek and Madagascar have done. They make movies that the kids love and grown ups can enjoy too. They always put some grown up jokes here and there that the little ones don't understand to make it more entertaining to us parents who hate being dragged out to a boring as hell kids movie.
And im expecting that Activision will release a movie tie-in video game(Which will always happen).
