Have you ever heard of the site called Topix?
I've been there a couple of time. The owners claim that it is supposed to be the new news model, but a lot of the time, it's just racists, homophobes, sexists and bullying nonstop, frequently unprovoked. I've seen so many unprovoked racist posts that get so many likes.
Apparently, it garnered international attention because too many cyberbullies use it and ruin people's lives by posting slander since the site requires no registration and the site is legally protected. It apparently ruined little towns across the USA.

I don't go there much, but I like having the comments uncensored on news sites. Otherwise you end up getting comments deleted based on what a moderator thinks is offensive. Sometimes the truth IS offensive.

The point is that Topix is not a news site in itself. It's a site that allows people to create their own news stories about their own community with no registration required. So frequently, a bunch of trolls end up making up horrible stories about people and it ruins their reputation.

I enjoy reading the garbage that's on there about the area I live in. Most of it concerns a local grocery store and how they managers there sleep with a lot of women. Thrilling.

I used to like Topix, but now there is way more crap and less actual news. I don't see any of the big headlines listed anymore; just a bunch trolls soliciting nonsense. I do like being able to anonymously leave comments without using any of my personal email addresses. It's also nice to be able to post your own news, drop dimes, etc. and know millions will see it.

What I don't get is why are they allowing this stuff to go on?
