IT was NOT a "remake" of the earlier film it was a re-adaptation of the novel and quite a nice adaptation i'd say.
It's like saying I Am Legend was a "remake" of Omega Man and saying Omega Man was a "remake" of Last man on Earth, NOPE, all three are adaptations of the same source material being Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend but their plots and stuff are different.
I consider remakes and re-adaptations to be 2 very different things! remakes are usually based ONLY on ORIGINAL FILMS/SCREENPLAYS not based on source material like say Ocean's 11, Scarface, The Blob, Nutty Professor, King Kong, Hills have Eyes etc. are all based on original films/original screenplays and all are TRUE remakes in every sense. Re-adaptation means another adaptation of source material (book, comic or novella) and not the previous films that adapted the source material like say John Carpenter's The Thing (not a remake of the earlier film but in name only as it has little in common other than alien and snow as it's actually a very faithful re-adaptation of the short story that was very loosely adapted in the earlier film), Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, I Am Legend, Carrie, Dracula and Frankenstein films, Batman BeginsGirl with Dragon Tattoo, War of the Worlds etc. are all based on books, novellas and comics as they are all adaptations.
The more you know.
