Remeber the days when things were so complicated?

Retrojunk remembers

Remeber when being a kid things were funny/goofy but taught you something?

funny how those things are obsolite now huh?

so who agrees to keep the good old days going and teach the new dogs old tricks?

tell your kids about the 80s, tell them about the pet rock, tell them what the electric slide is, tell them what the hell Spam really is!

crap the title was suppose to refelt the first one
you remember how you could just watch tv, but know they have stuff poping up telling you to go outside? even before nick changed they had something were they took out about 4 or 5 hours with just a black screen saying with text and voice "go out side!"

I'm not sure what you mean. I was outside a lot when I was a kid. I came in to watch Dukes of Hazard and Happydays. Unless it was raining, I was outside. Kids should be outside.

Mine are outside almost all day. They dig holes and break shit. They climb stuff and use junk to make ramps for their bikes. They are normal kids. Almost all of their clothes are stained and they make the bathwater brown with dirt every night. All normal.

Yes I remember when as a kid I would park my ass in front of the TV and my whole day was planned. I was a lucky kid. My mom and dad were just like me!

I mean, you know those days when you dont feel like getting up and doing anything? and you just want to watch tv all day as a kid?

why take that away? I think kids should go out sometimes but if they dont want to why force them to go out? I did soccer and football, league bowling, and hung out side with friends but some days I felt like just sitting down and watching the boobtube.

also we will keep retroness alive by passing to our children and so fourth. I understand why old folks love to talk about the old days so much. serious, who forgets the old"In my day Ice cream was a nickel and comics were $0.25" I am glad to know about those old days.

I also thank most of you that were 80s kids and teens, I never knew the 80s were so cool. I was a 90s kid(born in 89) so the most I could pass on is the knowledge of the 90s.

Not only is the title confusing but so is the message. What if kids don't want to know about the 80's? And what's with this go outside crap? You yourself don't go outside, you just stay on the computer all day bitching about how much things have changed and watching porn. Why not lead by example? And if anyone here has kids, I'm sure they won't keep them indoors 24/7, otherwise that's their bad parenting.

I know when I have kids, I'll take em to visit "the money tree" every weekend or so :)

My Dad did this with me when I was 4 or 5. It thrilled me to go hunting for pennies and find some.

Bless his soul. I miss him dearly :(

I think it is because if you ONLY watch TV you could be in danger of becoming boring and/or out of shape. Unless of course, you get other types of mental and physical exersize. I loved being outside as a kid, and also loved TV. I feel both are important.

TV can expand the mind. Getting out side and playing expands visual, physical and mental acuity.

One needs to strike a balance. Too many kids don't get the correct balance these days.

Hmm, people actually liked to be inside and watch TV for the day? Granted, I've done that as a kid, but I also remember actually being outside, in my old house's backyard, both in NJ and when I moved to Pa. But, like any other subject, if someone is interested to know about the 80's, wait until the discussion comes up or maybe have some memorabilia up for the curious eye to spot.

my point exactly, its like kids can only do one or the other these days. Parents dont make their kids get out when they stay in too long, and some dont let them stay inside when they dont want to be outside.

its like a double sided arrow you have to stay in the middle.

but it is understandable that parents dont want to hurt their children but also want the best for them(and do their best).

Too many distractions this day in age compared to 25 or 30 years ago. No computers, cell phones, cable, video games were early in production. I had those lazy days but unlike today there was not a damn thing to keep you in the house.

I think some of it has to do with the kids and distractions like tv and video games and the internet and some of it has to do with the fact that adults are less social than they used to be. If their child is not old enough to play outside than the parent has to actually go out and play WITH them and risk running into the neighbors and their kids and be social. People don't seem to like that these days. Many people live next to their neighbors for years these days and can't even name their first or last name and can count on their fingers the number of times they have spoken to them.
                                :)

The only time I ever stayed inside all day was when it was too cold or raining. Even then I did my best to brave the elements for as long as possible. Also, I never sat in front of the tube all day. I liked to read books or listen to me tapes while playing with my G.I. Joes. I was lucky to have parents the wouldn't allow me to stare at the idiot box all day. Now that I'm a father, unless my kids are sick, I put them outside to play, & most of the time I'm outside with them, if I don't have things that need to be done around the house. A lot of the parents fail, in my never to be humble opinion, by letting their kids get by with playing Nintendo & watching TV all day.
