I'm a fan of the American Film Institute's specials, and not just because I'm a member of the group. As a cinema aficionado, I love these specials. They're sort of like VH1's "I Love..." programs, only they're tailored exclusively to the movies and the commentators are better known.

Tonight at 8:00 PM on CBS, they'll be airing a special called "AFI's 10 Top 10". They'll be counting down the 10 best movies in 10 different categories.

The 10 categories that will be counted down are:

-Gangster movies

-Animated movies

-Fantasy movies

-Sci-Fi movies

-Crime movies

-Westerns

-Epics

-Sports movies

-Romantic comedies

-Courtroom dramas

I voted on this year's list, and tonight I, along with lots of movie fans, will be finding out the results.

I wanted to start this up as a discussion thread for when the program airs tonight. Does anybody else plan on watching it?

    Man...I totally would watch....

But the NBA Finals are on tonight, dude!

When is the rerun airing? :D

[edit] Okay so I can watch the first 30 minutes...

I wanna know why they have a "courtroom dramas" category? That's so....bleh. When's the last time you saw a "courtroom drama" movie in the last 20 or 30 years?? I mean really...they just LOVE talking about old movies, those AFI guys...

Well, if I'm correct, several repeats will be airing on Bravo in a few months.

Anyway, the show just ended and I must say that I'm a little torn. On the one hand, the Al Pacino version of "Scarface", "Blade Runner" and "Back To The Future" got some respect, but I would've replaced "Shrek" with "The Little Mermaid" on the animated list myself.

        Did anybody else watch it?

I watched it, but I missed the first hour. I got to it on the top 10 sports.

I caught it at Top 10 Westerns and I had to go to sleep early being it's a work night for me. You say it's on again on Bravo, Caps?

I can't disagree with most of the choices. I am not a movie aficionado. Though I might have put "Field of Dreams" or "the natural" into the sports category instead of a couple of the others.

Let me guess, for sports movies, it was "Rocky", right?

Not "Rocky". Rocky was second. Number one was Raging Bull. Can't argue with that.

I watch this, but I'm not a complete fan of it. My film library includes more obscure titles such as Brain Damage, Class of 1984, and The Blind Dead.

Some of the movies they list are great films though...I can't deny that.
