Anyone ever have one of these? Sadly, I had one yesterday.
Naturally, I was pretty excited about the prospect of finally landing a decent job. After graduating from college a couple of years ago, it seemed like I'd wasted my time and was unemployable.
As quickly as that optimism came, it was destroyed yesterday when I went in for the interview and discovered that the interview no-showed me. After walking around the place for around 30 minutes, I finally asked a worker why the HR office was closed. Apparently they decided to go home early.
To make it even worse, I find out this morning that last night the interviewer called my old boss (instead of me, for whatever reason) and asked why 'I didn't show up'. Needless to say, I don't think this is a place I want to work at.

One time the guy who was interviewing me was so unprepared. He didn't have a copy of my resume. When he was interviewing me he was also small talking with the other workers. His application was missing a lot of important information like to write down your phone number.
Another time I was applying to the county fair that had a 3rd party aquatic animal exhibit. The interviewer got the date wrong I was supposed to be interviewed the week before. I was supposed to be interviewed at the hotel that most fair people stay at. This person didn't respond to any of my calls or the ones from the hotel. Later in the evening I get an email telling me I was supposed to be interviewed the week before and sorry for the confusion.
When I was going to an interview at McDonalds the other workers lied about the manager not being there. The next day I get a call from the manager asking why I didn't show up.

I had just moved back to Chicago. I landed an interview by knowing someone on another forum. I got off at the wrong train stop and had to walk a few extra blocks. I called and informed I would be a little late.
When I arrived, the interviewers had moved on to something else, so I had to wait a little bit, but not too long. A jar of peanut butter rolled into the reception area. One of the interviewers proclaimed from the hallway that it was like, a month old. He came in, picked it up, and the two interviewers led me to the interview room.
They asked what I knew about Linux servers, which was not much. I had experience with Windows servers and some on Linux desktop. Apparently, the other forum poster had played down the responsibilities to me, and told his coworkers I was good for them.
One asked if I was like 20 years old. No, I said, I was 27. He seemed relieved about that, and I was a little happy about having youthful looks. However, it was clear by now I was not what they were looking for. I hung on, because I had nothing to lose now. They asked what I wanted to be paid. I said $13/hour, since that's what I made at the job I had just left in Californa. They said they were looking for someone at $30/hour. I gamely replied I would be fine with that pay and I was very willing to learn. "Yeah, no" was the attitude of their response to that.
They asked about where I lived. I told the train line and they asked how it was. Again, nothing to lose, I said it was nice, because the train ran until late, so it was easy to get home after going out drinking. I mean, they seemed to like that kind of thing. I was right. They said I seemed really laid back and fun, but I just didn't have the skills they were after.

Maybe you can turn this thread around with a story of a good interview. I don't know what you are or aren't capable of, but if pizza is your bag there are tons of other pizza places there. Apply to all of them and get away from those people! :)
The more I think about about the disaster that was that interview (or lack thereof), the more frustrating it is. After being out of college for nearly three years, I thought I had finally found a decent job.
That and the fact I have to go back to applying aimlessly to everything I find online.

Cool. I was raised in Sacramento most of my life and recently left. There was a lot of good and bad memories for me in that town. I kind of miss it but there are a lot of bad memories associated with that town that it's only a memory for me and I occasionally watch videos on Youtube of Sacramento and even old Sacramento Kings highlights when they used to be good!

I get this a lot myself and believe me the place i used to work at was hell on earth what a big mistake it was..... the manager of course was an mean Indian person and did not care about what kind of problem of disability i had. Because i had high Autism. The manager said to me you suck at this job some one has keep helping you all the time. Prolly the worst job I had was my first one at Quiznos. My bosses had cameras all over the place and they would watch live feed from their home and call in like snoops. Not to mention, sometimes we had to pay out of pocket if we messed up sandwiches and they would have us clock out early during closing time, so technically they had me washing dishes for an hour for free.

All illegal, but they get away with it because most if not all of the employees at these type of jobs are either young, illegal aliens, poorly educated or don't have the money to fight it. Its a myth that an employer can make an employee pay out of pocket for a mistake. It further complicates things when you're making minimum wage. The reason is when you pay out of pocket you're getting less than minimum wage. So if your register is short or you mess up an order the company has to eat the cost. You could sue them for damages if they were making you pay out of pocket.
It was the same way when I worked at Taco Bell as far as clocking out. We were given an hour to clean up, but the store manager was obsessive compulsive about cleanliness and wanted the store spotless. I mean you have no idea how clean he expected it and even with preclosing there wasn't enough time. So we would clock out and finish everything. When I became a manager I followed the same rules. If I was a manager there today I would never do that.
Another issue we had is we didn't get any breaks or lunches so some of us had to work none stop for 8 hours. At a few points they gave us a small break, but we had to clock out for it. I was beside myself when I got a real job and had two 15 minute breaks and an hour lunch.
Oh well I guess if they payed too well and treated us great we would never leave there and better ourselves.
Here in California the immigrants make careers at minimum wage jobs. Where as before that type of work was for teens or students.
I have been to so many interviews. I probably have some horror stories, but they have faded from history. I probably remember more bad jobs than bad interviews. Today's job market is just... I have no words.
But yeah, bad interviewers is an instant red flag. Interview questions that I should have been more insulted by were always age questions. And they try to sneak them in in other ways, but there really are no legal ways to ask someone their age during an interview. Just remember that. They can't ask when you graduated college, when you were born, if you're married/have kids. I feel like women get asked these questions more often, especially me because I still look 19. The most awkward question I have ever been asked is, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I smiled through the whole thing, but I wanted to punch them in the face. I fucking own my own home and manage my husband's business, how dare you ask me that question.
Can't say I have eaten at a Pizza Hut in years, but I used to live near New Rochelle, and all I can say is, what is with Indian people taking over pizza places? I'm not being racist, it just makes no sense to me. The one across the street from me serves curried jalapenos with every pizza. I mean, WHAT?!

I wrote this the other night, but my internet crash on me. Luckily I copied it to my clip board before I tried to submit it.
I've been with the company I work at now for 8 years so its been awhile since I've had an interview. While I think I would do much better today, the pain of interviewing is one reason I have stayed with the company I work for. I have always sucked at interviews and have come close to vomiting during them twice.
I have anxiety issues which makes interviews very difficult for me. Part of the problem is I hate the stupid ass questions they ask and always over analyze them. They always ask questions out of a book based on theory and the people interviewing are just employees in HR. Many people that fly through these interviews suck when it comes to doing the job. In other words if you're a good bull shitter you can get hired. The interviewer writes down your answers that will be read by another person. So you much treat that interview like you're a celebrity being interviewed by a tabloid. That person will then pick who will do the next round of interviews. Yes there are several rounds that you have to go to. This means getting dress up two, three and even four times to fighting
traffic and being late for your current job for a position you may not even get. Someone that can read a resume and is good at reading people can tell who is fit for the position. You don't need aptitude test, typing test, personality test and 5 interviews to find the right person.
Part of the problem is 100s of people apply and most are not even qualified. So they need to weed out the loser. Another thing that pisses me off is they often times don't state the pay. You don't want to seem pushy and ask early on, but you don't want to waste your time for $10 an hour when your spend over $2000 in a month like me. I could go on and on about finding a job. The best way to get a job is to know someone. A good word can go a long way. especially if its
someone that is respected by the company.

and he said the same thing that you said the best way to find a job is to know someone.
It's crazy how the world is today and to be fair to you i hate how the world is getting away with stupid reason's on jobs.

I think this is my biggest problem. I have always been a loner/not outgoing in the least, so my 'network' is extremely small. The people I do know work in places I wouldn't want to work at, so I have no idea what to do.

Ugggghhh Stupid Stupid Stupid! Seriously what the hell does knowing where a lilac would grow have to do with selling electronics? Here's what they should have asked you, "Can you sell electronics, yes or no?" Most likely some dumbass human resources manager came up with this hippy dippy bullshit after attending a seminar where some idiot who sounds like a motivational speaker was spouting off bullshit like "thinking outside the box" and "achieving synergy."
A guy who needs a new refridgerator or wants to get that new eieiophone with AngryNinjaFruitBirds or whatever so his snotnose little brat will shut the hell up and quit whining couldn't give a damn what your biggest secret is. He's hoping you can answer his questions and ring up his order already so he can move on with his life. It's as simple as ABC, Always Be Closing. If Alec Baldwin's character from Glenngary Glen Ross was a real person and posted on this forum he would have posted this.
