I know have 1.25 gigs of ram, a DVD-ROM drive, and a 512mb Nvidia graphics card installed

I used to have 256mb of ram,Cd-drive, and a 64mb motherboard video

        Staples had these items

I was surprised to find a PCI card

Installing them is the easy part making them run is the hard part

Why would you use a PCI video card -_-"

also I upgraded my laptop to 1.25GB of RAM earlier this year. I upgraded my desktop/server to 1.25GB of RAM last year around this time.

sadly my current one is PCI only, but I am starting A+ certification this month and we will build are own from piece to piece. My new one will be PCI express. but this is a rare find , a PCI graphics card , its Nvidia,512MB

it says it was created about a month or two ago.

And Link serious, my friend tells me all the time that PCI is outdated and isn't supported. and makes jokes about my computer attempting to play that game crysis. you have no Idea how bad this computer is for a gamer.

yeah my computer seems to flow better, but I haven't installed the Nvidia card yet, My CD drive stopped working and I got the DVD drive to have a disc drive, I was having problems so my friend said he would make a file of the disc and email it to me, but 5-10 minutes later after he left I got the dvd drive working(I didnt know that the cable to the dvd was Drive 0 on the secondary master, the hard drive is the primary master) so I have to wait to get that disc back.

but when I get it installed it will rock, it supports directX 9

Well I know how bad its gonna be for gaming, hence why I made that comment in my last post.

Video card = PCI, you're setting yourself up for trouble. At least get an AGP card (should be the brown slot on your board) I have no idea if PCI is going down the tubes, but PCI-e is optimized for gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, video cards, that sort of thing where speed matters.

And how is PCI-e a rarity? PCI-e isn't something that's going to go away for at least 5-10 more years. See if you can buy the parts yourself when the time comes to build tour system.

NO, regular PCI, because I couldn't find PCI cards anywhere, My PC is PCI only. my friend Uses AGP and I have seen more of those.

I was lucky to find a PCI card, but this willonly be temporary really. I know PCI-E is the new thing so when I start on a new computer I will be sure it has at least two PCI-e bus ports.

but the PCI card works really well, half life2 runs smooth and team fortress 2 the same.(I see so slow down on servers with 32 and over players, but my friend said that that happens to him too)

                          Card specs:
                          567 mhz core clock
                          512mb DDR2 memory
                          64-bit memory interface
667 MHZ memory data rate (effective)
                          DVI-I+VGA outputs supported
                          S-Video output
                          HDCP Capable
                          Dual 400 MHz RAMDACs

I disagree with your assertion....you weren't 'lucky' to find a PCI video card. If your motherboard is old enough that it doesn't even have an AGP slot on it, then all that RAM that you've installed is going to waste anyway. I guarantee that the RAM you bought is clocked for much greater speeds than your motherboard (your motherboard is probably set for less than 133 MHz) and PCI video cards have been obsolete for the past 7 years, at the least. Link is right about PCI-E being abundant...it's the current standard...although he was wrong about the color of the AGP slot...they CAN be brown, but not always. It's dependent on the motherboard manufacturer. The AGP slot is usually located between the PCI slots and the processor, and it looks like a PCI slot with an extra clip to attached to the card outside of the slot. Good luck with you upgrading!
