Based on a lot of media coverage kids seem a lot more violent today then, let say 25 years ago. A lot more murders from 13 year olds. Going postal on class mates and beating the death a homeleess person for the hell of it. Are kids more violent today? Or is just more media coverage. I have to admit, a lot more kids today seem to be lacking a concious.

The media just covers everything bad. There were just as many child sociopaths then as there are now. Look at those kids that killed that James Bulger kid in the UK in 93. Yeah it has nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto.

They suck now I mean they have been bad kids in every generation but not as bad as it is NOW!!!
It could be a combination of things, especially media. As it was mentioned, there have been bad kids each generation, but seems that as time goes on, media pays more and more attention to it.
It's just like situation involving child abductions or children being abused or molested. It's always been around, but there just wasn't as much awareness on it. Now a days, the media covers this a lot, making parents a lot more aware, and victimized children more options as to what they could do.
When we were kids, I'm sure our parents weren't extremely worried when we played outside from sun up to sundown, now-a-days, parents have stuff like Law & Order (and all of its spin offs) continuously going on about the dangers out there, making the parents more over protective. It's on television all the time, so I could understand why parents are anxious to keep their kids inside now. :lol: *Agrees*

Actually kids and teens were the most violent in the early 90. If you don't believe me look up the juvenile crime statistics for back then. This is what prompted changes in the way kids are disciplined and this push to let kids express their feelings. If anything I would say kids are less violent and more whimper. In the violence you see today they usually use unfair methods like going after someone in a large group or using a weapon. They did it back in the 90s as well, but it seemed to be mostly none whites back then. I know where I live amongst whites going after someone in an unfair way was considered wrong. Now that belief has changed possibly due to the wide diversity in schools today which has causes a new set of "school yard codes". I think the reason it has been common with none whites before is because minorities had to stick together to protect themselves from other groups.

Damn you right. The other day at my job I seen this little girl pushing her mother and giving her a hard time. If it wasn't for my parent's regulating I would be a little asshole. And now today if you put a belt to your kid's ass you're a child abuser.

GTA wasnt blamed for little jamies' murder..that was layed at the feet of "Childs play 3" a film both the little bastards who killed him had seen, and there were striking similarities between some of the scenes in the film and how the junior phychos chose to end jamies life.

I'm going to agree with bassman21. I think kids and teenagers were more violent in the early 90s. I couldn't go without seeing a kid at my school get arrested for bringing drugs to school, stealing and getting into senseless fights.
I guess I was too young to have noticed stuff like that. I don't recall seeing many fights in school back in the early 90s, then again, I was in Elementary/Middle too. In High School, especially my senior (late 90s), I could count on one hand how many fights I'd seen that year in school.
Maybe it was more violent in the early 90s.
Of course, we all know what everyone probably blamed. Rap music. :P
