The voice actor of the ubiquitous The Simpsons character Edna Krabappel has died of breast cancer at age 70. Al Jean has stated that instead of replacing her, Edna will be retired from the show.

RIP, Marcia. Thank you for voicing an awesome character.

Retiring Edna will be a lot better than replacing her.

It's still kind of sad. Every permanent change on The Simpsons ends up negative. There's almost never any improvement in their lives. Yes Ned got married to Edna but now she's going to be killed off.

Yup, it seems that Edna Krabappel has joined the ranks with Troy McClure and Conrad McBain (both of which, are performed by Phil Hartman).

Still, this makes me wonder what would happen if one of voice-actors to The Simpsons family dies. Will they just end the show from there, or will they find a different voice-actor for them?

I hope they come up with some backstory that removes her from the show instead of just having her disappear like Troy McClure did.

Lets not forget Marcia Wallace has also stared and guest stared on a large number of TV shows going all the way back to Bewitched. She will be missed.

Yes, and she played the same character on an episode of Murphy Brown.

Yep, Marcia Wallace was the crazy receptionist on "The Bob Newhart Show". In fact, by 1972 Marcia Wallace had lost a lot of weight by the time she appeared with Bob on his show.

It was my mom that told me about Marcia's life long battle with being heavy. Like a lot of actors/comedians, Marcia had to overcome a not so happy childhood. At first she made people laugh with "fat jokes" as a stand up comedian, but as she gained control over her weight she found that she still had the magic of making people laugh.

Her voice work as Edna was priceless! You guys got to hear Marcia at the top of her Game. I'm with all of you in saying that I will truly miss her.

                  REST IN PEACE MARCIA WALLACE

This makes me so sad that Ned Flanders has lost his wife again.

The episode is called "Four Regretting and a Funeral". What a sad ending for this episode of The Simpsons. R.I.P. Marcia Wallace (1942-2013)

She also voiced the highly underused Simpsons character Ms. Mellon.

I just saw "The man who grew too much". This was the last time we see Edna Krabappel. After Ned dreams about he and Edna doing the tango dance, He looks at the picture and says sadly, "I sure do miss that laugh." Nelson comes pops in Ned's window and went "Ha-ha! I miss her, too!"

I'll never forget her as the wild Mrs. Caruthers from Full House.

Marcia Wallace also played the Elvis fan lady in the Marsupilami short, "The Fear of Kites."

it's amazing how they kept so many things intact throughout the different parallel universes.

i think the original version of her might still be alive as well as the original ann b davis.
