Anyone ever read the " fake " book. You know the one written under pseudonym that was made to scare kids away from drugs. There were others written in the late 60's early 70's but that was the only one I ever read.

I have read Go ask alice also there was another one that was (abridged) by the same person called Jays Journal which was about a mormon kid from utah that got into satan worship. Being a resident of utah We all knew that the story was semi real because the kid really did die and he was in the news but the parents sued the author saying it wasnt real. I remember in high school like on halloween Kids would dare other kids to go sleep on his grave or break into his old house, Which is torn down now from what i understand. Kind of funny

Yeah I think like 21 of over 200 supposed entries were created by the author for that book. Thats why they sued her and apparently about him being into the occult and satanism which they said he was not.

I thought it was just a fictional diary.

Dunno where you're getting this occult mess.

I was referring to Jay's Journal not Go Ask Alice which was a fictional work. Even their publishers now list it as fiction. At the time it was perceived as being a true story. But Jay's Journal was partly true but largely fictionalized for shock value.

I remember reading this in the 7th grade. My mom was leaning over my shoulder and was appalled by the language, so she decided to embarrass the hell out of me by writing an angry letter to my English teacher saying "to have better judgment on what reading material is suitable for 7th graders" or something to that effect. I was mortified.

Oh yeah, that happens to alot of books and films like mockumentaries. People think they are real, so if the person in the film is percieved to be a bad person, people treat them like that in real life.
