Seriously though, virtually no one in the US plays soccer beyond high school (most don't play it past jr high).
With the other stuff you mention, I assume you're talking about nfl? I despise football/nfl/gridiron, largely because I get so sick of having it crammed down my throat at every turn. It'd be bad enough if it was halfway decent, but from what I've seen of it, it's more like chess with human pieces. They seem to spend more time getting into position & arguing about referee judegments than actually playing. With all the long dead times interspersed with brief rushes of action, it's like watching rush hour traffic.
In contrast I once saw a bit of rugby or australian football or something (not sure exactly what it was), and the players just kept playing until they scored, never stopping for stupid shit like the ball touching the ground or whatever.
