The UK version wasn't allowed Mike to show his numchuks, this is apparent if you watch the UK 'Hero' Intros and compare to the US

1990boy Posted 5 years 6 months ago
thats not right
TEOL Posted 7 years 2 months ago
2nd Intro Better Quality is now up in Virtual PAL unless is the second series was availble as Ninja in PAL later on in that case it would be real and also availble in original in my opinion too slow 23fps NTSC Film Mode but that was how cartoons were filmed back in the days US at 23fps and UK at 25fps so virtual PAL I like better but 23fps NTSC Film Mode originals are interesting to hear just to be able to hear how slow the theme tunes sound like in the originals.

This show was by far the best cartoon ever made. Today's cartoons don't stand a chance. We used to watch it every day after school. One of my favorite episodes was the first appearence of Casey Jones, what an awsome new character! We would fight over who would be Casey during play. When the real life movie came out, It was crazy! I was so exited, I still remember the details of that day as if it was a major global event. The only other cartoon that even comes close to the 80's TMNT is The Real Ghostbusters.

thebeatgoeson, I'm not religious. I can accept people believing in religion.

As long as no other people are forced to belive or not belive in it. Religious freedom is also for children.

i don't remember many episodes- we had a vhs (how it all began) and watched over and over. it was a lot more humorous than it less friendly looking modern counterparts and i was too old to get into those. but when it was hot i worshiped it- had a figure, (i wanted leonardo so i swapped for my brothers raphiel- he lost a fork and tried to swap back...) read the joke book: (why did bebop throw his alarm clock out the window?- he wanted to kill time.

I wasn't allowed to watch TMNT or have the toys at my house, my mom thought they were the work of Satan. I had to go to all my friend's houses to watch the show and play with the toys. One of the many reasons why I hate religion today.

When other kids were really into GI Joe or Transformers, I was raised on Ninja Turtles along with Ghostbusters. I religiously watched the cartoons every Saturday morning and I watched the first 2 live action movie until the tapes wore out (the newest CGI movie was cool to look at but the story was forgettable, and let's pretend the 3rd movie never happened). I even went to school a few times with a broomhandle I pretended was Don's Bo-staff. Since this was long before Columbine the teacher's were cool about it.

This was 'the' show to watch when I was a kid. Used to record these on VHS from Sky Channel where there was this puppet called DJ Cat representing the cartoons shown on the show. It might've been called Fun Factory, not sure. With Turtles, they aired also episodes from Inspector Gadget. Man Turtles was the coolest. It's weird that people in these cartoons wear the same clothes all the time. That yellow jumper that April wears must smell like ass. Just watched an episode today called "Attack of the 50-foot Irma". What's also interesting is that this show used old movies to cycle in the episode titles. Like in this case "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman". Another example is "Maltese Hamster" from the same season that is obviously borrowed from Bogart's "Maltese Falcon". Something The Simpsons did when it started to air a couple years later. This time, Turtles beat to it.

You know these kinds were considered handicap right? Teenage MUTANT Ninja Turtles...Mutant is a deformity that takes place at birth which means some are born with only one arm, leg or few of it's fingers, which is why these turtles only have three fingers and a half shell. Pretty creative these people where to add that to the cartoon and everything about them were still cool.

this show is a classic haha and to think that the comics that the show is supposed to be based on was violent and all the trutles had red head bands and the foot clan were guys in ninja suits not robots and the turtles did kill the foot clan so the cartoon is a farcry from the comics big time. . . . but its still good haha

This was my older brother's obsession back when he was young (I even found a picture of him in a Ninja Turtle Halloween costume when he was four.) He had a couple of tapes, and I watched them, but I never *really* got into the old Ninja Turtles, which I sort of regret. I saw some of the new Ninja Turtles... it wasn't bad, but this will always be on top

Best cartoon ever!... Well thats debatable, but this show is awesome noon the less! I don't think I can think of a show that juggled action, adventure and comedy as well as this one. Natalie0790, I know the TMNT name annoys you, but the TMHT name annoys me. Right here in the country they originated, the United States, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the original name, and is the only name they were ever known by. In Europe, censors felt that the word "ninja"have excessively violent connotations for a children's program. Although, I do find it strange that the United States has more stringent policies on what is acceptable on children's programming, considering how heavily censored things that come out of Europe have to be before being allowed to air on US tv.

The Ninja Turtles craze in the late 80's/early 90's was the equivalent of the Pokemon craze a few years ago and I bought into it hook, line, and sinker. From the toys, shows, movies, and cereal, I had to be a part of it...
Until the third movie and cartoons on CBS.

Our whole yard loved the turtles. We loved to play them and fought over who gets to be who. Later I diiscovered the original comic books and when the new series began, I liked it too, since it was more faithfull to the comics. And the turtles moved better. I watched some old episodes again and got annoyed how they fell around the enemies like drunks.

The classic TV show is my all time favorite show, period. End of story. I currently fight the ebay battles and run myself into poordom trying to win original stuff in the pacages... A sad story, but if I have to be interested in something, then it may as well be something close to my heart that has never gone away since I was a little boy... and that is definately it.

TMNT rules new, old, or in the future, movies were great, can't wait for a movie remake.
kerfootb Posted 13 years 1 month ago
Hey! Hey! Hey! What's up with all the hate on the new series?! The old one's good I know but the new one is in no way bad at all!
ratvision Posted 13 years 1 month ago
I've got 'How It All Began' on video, as the Hero Turtles and I'll never give that up either.

toonwatcher Posted 13 years 2 months ago
I finally got the first 5 seasons on DVD. Cool. I don't think that I'll get the 6th because I think that's when they start the bad episodes.

If you look close in the intro of hero turtles you can see that Michaelangelo dosnt have his nunchucks
or what ever wepon he used because at that time that wepon was illegal in UK
Manuel432 Posted 13 years 4 months ago
I'm not missing out I'm ten years old and I love retro
stuff I got almost every single old game. Redhead01 I am one of those kids who owns a game boy. The one from 1989.
Manuel432 Posted 13 years 4 months ago
Love the old series it just rocks the new series is cool but not like the first one
ratvision Posted 13 years 4 months ago
This is one of my favourite cartoons of all time and it has the greatest theme tune ever. I still have a video of the Hero Turtles. My parents wanted to throw it when we moved house but I wouldn't let them ha ha
Adam1989 Posted 13 years 4 months ago
the new one sucks!!! but this old one was the greatest cartoon to ever. even though the case of the killer pizzas scared the crap out of me bc the aliens looked like the one from ALIEN.
luvya525 Posted 13 years 4 months ago
the original is the best, and i loved the movies. i dont like this new one that's out now
redhead01 Posted 13 years 5 months ago

theblueblaze_1 Posted 13 years 5 months ago!! This show will be rememberd through out history. TMNT all da way!
roguefirefly Posted 13 years 5 months ago
I thought the original series of this was amazing! I don't like that in the new series they blanked out their eyes, making them just white and attempted to make them look scary! That's not what they should have been. The original characters were fun and it made you happy watching them. They kicked a**! I liked Mikey best! 8-D
supermario220 Posted 13 years 5 months ago
Best Show ever I use to have all the toys
Candice Posted 13 years 5 months ago
Unlike the new series the original ones were ALL TIME CLASSIC. My favourite turtle was Leonardo because of his brave heart (not to mention that I even fell in love with him). In addition Michaelango was very funny and the only thing he was thinking of was pizza.

One of the best cartoons ever!
Natenobate Posted 13 years 6 months ago
I really liked the original. But I prefer the new series.
The original did not correctly follow the comic story line and their persona was really watered down for censorship laws. dose anyone agree? I like both But the newer one is just an improvement.
Bec83 Posted 13 years 6 months ago
I was soo obsessed with this show when it came out. I had nearly every toy imaginable including numerous Raphael toys. Ahh great memories
gaastra Posted 13 years 6 months ago
Why is the 2003 intro on here?
Benjanime Posted 13 years 6 months ago
ninja turtles was the sh** back in the day. i woulda got the chance to buy ALL of the action figures if my parents didn't get carried away with the rest of the money. don's always been my favorite turtle
BraveStar82 Posted 13 years 6 months ago
That 3rd intro did air on TV. It was the version CBS used when it aired the cartoon. I loved this show. I didnt realized it was on until '96. I was in high school by then and was too hungover for Saturday morning cartoons. My favorite was Don cuz i could find broomsticks anywhere to pretend to be him. I was a turtle 3 times for Halloween, and I think the new stuff is way too serious. Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!!!
Raivun Posted 13 years 6 months ago
i remember intro number 3 on tv like 5 years ago or something i live in ohio
macdadymario Posted 13 years 6 months ago
gosh how i have missed this show, and its cool to know one of the greatists cartoons of all time aired its first episode the day i was born
blueluigi Posted 13 years 7 months ago
Oh yeah and I saw the new TMNT movie. I LOVED it! it was awesome! April O Neil and Casey Jones were in it too. Although April was not a news reporter in this movie, she still kicked butt and helped fight along with the turtles. In especially loved the CGI graphics. It's reminds me of the graphics used in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I mean after all they did make a video game that I belive uses the 3D graphics used from the movie and it would be a great game to play. The TMNT movie just ROCKED OUT LOUD!!!! I especially loved seeing it on the BIG screen. The screen was really big from what I saw it which makes it PERFECT!!!!
blueluigi Posted 13 years 7 months ago
I thought the new TMNT was good. I also liked the video games however Gamespot gave the new TMNT games low ratings like a 4.0 out of 10.
dvdsaltan21 Posted 13 years 7 months ago
The whole TMNT franchise is simly the best there ever was and ever will be, and if you really are a fan you obviously don't trash on the new series, given the old series was an absolute classic the new series has just as much promise and you have to be willing to accept and respect the changes that peter laird originally intended for the cartoon. And now thanks to the new cartoon and merchandise success TMNT will visit the Big screen again, now i love everything there is to with the turtles and i always will but my suggestions are to those who have probably only watched the new cartoon a couplpe times and judged it to soon, just give it a chance and i'm sure you'll all like it, especially consdidering it's made for teens and older this time, so now that were all older it should still appeal to us all. I have every ninja turtle DVD possible and i wouldn't mind owning even the japanese and other counrty versions as well, and even though the (next mutation)series didn't do so well i would love to have that on dvd as well but it's only available in the UK, but i anticipate a possible release in the US. But seriously if you really were ever a true fan then you should give the new series a try you might be suprised. And i welcome and urge everyone to go see the new CGI TMNT movie in theaters March 23.

The last decent Saturday morning cartoon.
Oldschoolgamer83 Posted 13 years 7 months ago
Probably put this just behind Transformers as my favorite cartoon when I was growing up. I actually didn't mind the newer series either when it first began but now with the futuristic stuff it's just stupid.
Natenobate Posted 13 years 7 months ago
Oh god this brings back memory's I had the videos. Underwear baseball glove & Toys but I prefer the new turtles over the 80's & 90's version.
sonicrulez10 Posted 13 years 7 months ago

The last good Saturday Morning cartoon.

I can't wait until the season 4 boxset comes out. That's the beginning of the Saturday episodes.

This also came on weekday afternoons.

I love it. I don't like the new series though.

OlSchoolNickRules Posted 13 years 8 months ago
Did anyone watch that Japanese intro? What a disgrace! It's like they dumbed it down it into another crappy anime with no originallity or faith to the original series whatsoever.

Well I played the original arcade Ninja Turtles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus for x-box. It was pretty cool. Also did you know that in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare you could unlock Turtles in Time the videogame? I want to play that.

Also you know how in the 2003 TMNT they don't say "Cowabunga"! Well in TMNT2 for x-box I heard one of them say this: Cowabunga, wait we're not supposed to say that anymore. That was soooooo funny.
blueluigi Posted 13 years 11 months ago
I liked the old Ninja Turtles and the video games (and I normally think video games based on TV sucked). Did you know that the original arcade Ninja Turtles is an unlockable for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for X-box? My friend sonicemerald has that game and we've been playing to unlock the arcade game.
Nostalgiascape Posted 13 years 11 months ago
This show was excellent. Not many good cartoons came along after the Transformers MOTU era ended. But this was a good one.

I like that the turtles could talk to April the reporter. Donatello was my favorite turtle, he was very smart.
Daniel_BMS Posted 13 years 11 months ago
This 80's show was one of my all time favorites, but it doesn't age well at all.
BlueMario Posted 13 years 11 months ago
Here's the PERFECT order of the TMNT accroding to the arcade games:

1. Leonardo (Blue)
2. Michaelangelo (Orange)
3. Donatello (Purple)
4. Raphael (Red)

I can't quite spell their names correctly, but I like: Leo and Mike.
The reason why I like leo is becuase he has a blue mask with double kantanas, Blue IS my favorite color of all time,
The reason why I like Mike is becuase he's so Joyful, funny and always ready to party. he has double Nunchacks.
blackphoenix77 Posted 14 years 20 days ago
I can't BELIEVE they considered callin' this show "Teenage mutant HERO Turtles"...ugh, was "ninja" seen as being too violent or having negative connotations?

Anyway, to me the show was good for the first five or six episodes, then it began a long, painful slide into slapstick. "Hey, why fight these evil ninja dudes with our sharp pointy weapons when we can just throw a pizza at 'em or trip them?" I like the current show, but it comes on too early in the morning.
marioandyoshi96 Posted 14 years 21 days ago

Oh yeah

I was never allowed to watch this for some reason. Which seems really funny now because just a few years ago I saw the opening for Count Duckula (which I WAS allowed to watch when I was little) and it scared me silly.

retroguy78 Posted 14 years 2 months ago
Oh yeah, this was what was cool in the late 80s/early 90s. Next to Doug, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is my all time favorite cartoon. I thought Michaelangelo was the coolest turtle of them all.
jaklumen Posted 14 years 3 months ago
I was familiar with the comics somewhat, but didn't actually read the origin story until my wife brought out her graphic novel of the first handful of issues (redone in color-- the original was simply inked). The comic was wildly popular-- our local game & comics dealer had a 4th printing of #1 and it was still worth a decent amount of money.

However, I much prefer the original TV series to the FoxBox version, although I know the latter is more faithful to the comics. The pilot rocked-- plenty of action. Unfortunately, I guess the censors intervened, and so the violence was gradually toned down until it was simply clownish. They decided to make the Foot Soliders bumbling robots, for example. I know Bebop and Rocksteady were always the flunky goons, but that was just too much.

The arcade games based on the series (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time) are still some of my favorite old school arcade games. Regardless of who's a fan of which turtle, I have to tell you that Donatello played the best, as the bo staff had the greatest reach.
BlueMario Posted 14 years 4 months ago
Teenage mutant ninja turtles owned off the 1980's, and the 1990's!!!! This show was so Amazing I played their both of their 4-Player video Arcade games, SUch as, TMNT and TMNT 2 Turtles in time THEY WERE AWESOME!!!!! I even downloaded the Arcade game by using an Arcade Emulator called MAME. I Played my Emulator, all the time on PC!! They're still cool though.
I think I still have that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV Turtles in time game for the SNES version. But I really wanted the 4-player Arcade version, so I downloaded it on my Emulator. (Which I'm Gonna sell it very soon.)
kjoy Posted 14 years 4 months ago
the teenage mutant ninja turtles were the best show ever. I wish they would bring back the show.
Crazy4Nostalgia Posted 14 years 4 months ago
Original is classic. Should never, ever be touched.

German one rocks. German goes great with rock for some reason. Same with Scandanavian and Slavic languages.

The Action Zone version is totally lame. Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles. They say that three times and then "Turtle power!" What? Couldn't you come up with something any better? Also, when the evil shredder attacks, turtles fight back? That is so uncreative. Should've never changed the intro, at all.
MeLcator Posted 14 years 5 months ago
I've been rewatching this series since playing Mutant Nightmare 3 for the PS2 it definately kicks the new series out of the way, nothing can beat the original!

sory for my early confussion with who baxterstockman was,the real name of the charactor I was mentioning earlyer was krang,of corse I dont remember to much about the old show or those pink ball like aliens eather I dont remember seeing baxter in the old series eather so I dont remember him being a part fly part human,
Jake_1079 Posted 14 years 6 months ago
the new TMNT realy sucks, the animation theme song and background music just dont seem to cut it,and also the fact that the foot clan ninjas wear renamed the purple dragons,I dont get why they couldnt keep some of the older ideas, they didnt even have Rocksteady and Bebopthey just replaced them with some 9 foot tall steroid freek, and splinter I thought looked a lot better in the old show and so did that baxter stockman guy who was a creepy pink ball with 2 tentacles and a robot exoskelition(not a human head who stuck to robot ezoskelitons)they realy measted up on the shows remake.
S2K Posted 14 years 6 months ago
This show was a big part of childhood. Loved it. I recall my friends and I and would contemplate actually going in a sewer because of the Turtles. Luckily, common sense overruled our naive young minds at the time. I have all the action figures still collecting dust somewhere in my house. I haven't seen this show since 1991 or so, but I'm not interested in any of the newer versions. The stuff from the late '80's is what I grew up on.
Nikadimas Posted 14 years 7 months ago
I have to agree with Gaff that The Real Ghostbusters would have to come in first for me. TMNT though will probably be the most memorable one of the two though. (The Ghostbusters film was made for adults, while TMNT was for kids) I still had all the toys and just about all the episodes on tape.
EarthwormJim_Guhroovy Posted 14 years 7 months ago
The original Ninja Turtles is probably one of the best cartoons of the 90's decade. It was hip funny and almost like a spoof of the bland violent crap most kids watch today (i.e. the "newer" in-name-only turtles -they suck!) I actually "met" Leonardo at a thing in Disneyworld when I was 3. My Mom took a picture of me hugging him. I grew up a tomboy (I'm a girl by the way) preferring Ninja Turtles and Nintendo games to Barbies and Cabbage Patch Kids. COWABUNGA!!
codeblue78 Posted 14 years 7 months ago

ccann702 Posted 14 years 8 months ago
The new version is actually critically acclaimed and it's truer to the original comic. This is the original though and it was a big part of my childhood. GooPlanet7387, I had all the figures and games too, although I had to settle for Hyperstone Heist on my genesis. Not as good as Turtles in Time, but the best turtle fix you could find on the genesis. And I think every young turtle fan had at least one birthday where every decoration and gift was TMNT related. I even had the old school TMNT fish-tail skateboard.
BlueMario Posted 14 years 8 months ago
You know, I am a boy, I'm 13 right now. I rented the first season DVD once. I still kinda like it. The new version's Stttuuuu-Pid!! LONG LIVE THE CLASSIC

I was such a TMNT fan back in the day. I didn't know any other girls who watched it as much as I did. This guy at my mom's job even bought me a TMNT plate/bowl set. I'd watch the show and have my morning sugar rush at the same time. It was great!!
vantera Posted 14 years 8 months ago
yea, the new TMNT sucks, it has good animation, but ive noticed they take old classic stories and change them a bit, making them totally ridiculous, i was a huge TMNT fan when i was a kid, when i heard there was a new one i was like "bossanova, uhhhh, chevy nola?" lmfao, but the storyline sucks

I remember I wasn't interested in T.M.N.T. at first. But when my dad got us a video of T.M.N.T. that they had at Burger King, then I was hooked to T.M.N.T.

I can't remember the title to that episode, but it was the one when Donetello gets caught in a beam and is teleported onto an alien spaceship. Those aliens had 3 arms on each side.

That was also the episode when April O'Neal saved her news reporter job by getting a story about the aliens.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, (3X)
Heroes in a half shell. Turtle power!

There the world's most fearsome fighting team, (we're really hip)
they're heroes in a half shell and they're green. (hey get a grip)
When the evil Shredder attacks,
Those turtle boys don't cut 'em no slack.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Splinter taught them to be ninja team, (he's a radical rat)
Leonardo lead's, Donatello does machines. (that's a fact jack)
Raphael is cool but crude,
Raphael: (give me a break)
Michelangelo is a party dude.
Michelangelo: (party)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, (3X)
Heroes in a half shell. Turtle power!

Who could forget the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Their introduction came in with a slam and made serious profits, primarily in the toy department. This was an entertaining show that I watched a lot as a young guy. However, I will have nothing to to with the new retro version.

steveland76 Posted 14 years 11 months ago
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the shiznit! Oh, my goodness, April O'Neill was hot for an animated character! I noticed there were several episodes where April would bend over for a second and her cleavage would be showing. Those animators weren't slick, man. Heh-heh.
BenJabotuya Posted 14 years 11 months ago
I loved this show. Bebop and Rocksteady were REALLY stupid goons of The Shredder. My favourite villain was The Shredder. James Avery (a.k.a. Uncle Phil) fit that role really well. In the Fresh Prince Episode when Ashley gets drums, I realised that as soon as Uncle Phil looks at the Drum set, he is enfuriated and hollers "Vivian!" in his Shredder-voice.
Cybertooth85 Posted 14 years 11 months ago
When they tired the invading aliens bit, with further mutation, and all that other, "striving to bring back our eighties property success"....

OK... there was Michaelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo... It took me awhile to actually remember all of them. This was an ok show. My older brothers were more into it than I was. They own like every single toy of these guys.

Possibly the BEST action/adventure cartoon show I watched as a kid growing up in the late 80s! I used to have plenty of the action figures and even Shredder's hideout (which was pretty big) This program was always fun and original and the characters were memorable... even the villains! I remember playing the NES game (which is a VERY old game now) at a friends house for hours! The remake of the original cartoon (which is sometimes aired on CN) is decent, but comes no where to being as good! The movies (aside from Part 3) were even better than the cartoon!

Isn't the hero turtles the version they showed in England? I think the word "ninja" was too violent for their children. (gee they aren't even allowed to own weapons there!)

I grew up on the TMNT. They where so awesome. I still have the sewer playset, truck, and action figures from my childhood. Maybe I'll find them and play with them again.

This has to be my favorite show of all time! Of course it had several glitches (one turtle would talk with the wrong voice or characters would disappear in screen transitions) but the show was just awesome! By the way, I hope everyone heard they released the first couple seasons on DVD!

No show defined my childhood like the original TMNT. Thats all I can say.

Never sorry - the best Turtle ever was Mikey

Turtle Power!! One of the greatest things ever created. Leonardo was my favourite and the "Foot" is the best name for a ninja gang. Its a shame they no longer play the old episodes but they have newer ones out which is something at least.
