Four Atlanta men, - Ed, Lewis, Bobby, and Drew become "weekend warriors" who set off in two canoes down the mystery laden "Cahulawassee river" and discover a wildreness of terror. Filmed on the Chatooga River in the North Georgia mountains this thriller is remembered most for its "Dueling Banjos" bit where the character Drew plays the guitar with a young autistic inbred whos good with the banjo, and the infamous "Squeel like a pig" scene in which the character of Bobby is raped by a grizzled mountain man in a grove of trees next to the river. Upon its release the film was quite shocking in the eyes of the public (although it was geared towards "adult" audeinces hence its "R" rating). Released by Warner Bros. Pictures on July 30, 1972.
