The Bobby Goldsboro Show was television's highest rated variety series in syndication in the 1970's. Highly rated 30-minute syndicated music program. 3 seasons beginning in early 1973. Featured multiple songs by Bobby Goldsboro, one guest star only (usually), short comedy with a puppet or video character, and ended with Goldsboro and guest chatting and The best of the singer variety shows of the 1970's. Bobby Goldsboro was perfect as main performer, show host, and even in the short comedy segments. Goldsboro wonderfully presented his biggest hit songs along with classic album tracks and unreleased originals, covered other popular songs of the era, and did some incredible themed medleys and original music videos. Guests ran the entire musical spectrum, from Kenny Rogers and Roger Miller to Henry Mancini and Bill Withers, exposing the audience to many types of music. The brief comedy pieces had the charismatic Goldsboro and/or the guest laughing it up with a silly puppet or video screen character, but didn't cross the line into the inane "skits" of some of the other variety shows of the day. The interaction between Goldsboro and the guest was charming, and ended with some classic duet performances. A particular episode of note featured no guest at all. Shortly after Jim Croce's death, Goldsboro devoted an entire program to performing his songs, including a masterful version of "Time in a Bottle." Full of big hair and embroidered bell-bottoms, this was visually a show of its era, but the music was timeless. Calvin Calaveras (voice of Peter Cullen) was a computer generated frog character featured on the show. Calvin Calaveras interacted with host/singer Bobby Goldsboro (via a TV monitor) and a hand-puppet dog named Jonathan Rebel. During the TV show run Bobby Goldsboro released his 10th Anniversary album which you could order at the end of the show each week.
