Hajime Ningen Giatrus (はじめ人間ギャートルズ; First Human Giatrus) is a gag manga series created by Shunji Sonoyama. It was serialized on Manga Sunday between 1965-1975 and later in Shogakukan no Gakunen Betsugaku Shojishi from 1974 onwards. It followed the prehistoric adventures of Gon, his gorilla best friend Dotechin and his family who all reside in a fictitious region called the Giatrus Plains. Gon dreams of becoming a hunter, but despite having a timid personality, he has a strong friendship and boasts a hard stone head. The series later received a 77-episode anime by Tokyo Movie/TMS Entertainment and aired on Asahi Broadcasting System from October 5, 1974 to March 27, 1976. The adaptation is known for the debut of anime composer Joe Hisaishi, who was then using his real name Mamoru Fujisawa.
