J9 Series

The J9 Series (J9シリーズ) is a trilogy of mecha anime shows created and produced by Kokusai Eigasha/MIC and aired on TV Tokyo between October 1981 to January 1984. Each series consisted a team of robot pilots using their giant mecha that also transforms into a chosen vehicle to fight against criminal syndicates who planned on taking over the Solar System. Yu Yamamoto, scriptwriter for the series, named it J9 as such after the Sony Betamax SL-J9 video player, which at the time was out of his price range. Galaxy Cyclone Braiger (銀河旋風ブライガー, Ginga Senpū Buraigā) – Oct. 1981 - Jun. 1982 Galactic Gale Baxingar (銀河烈風バクシンガー, Ginga Reppū Bakushingā) – Jul. 1982 - Mar. 1983 Galactic Whirlwind Sasuraiger (銀河疾風サスライガー, Ginga Shippū Sasuraigā) – Apr. 1983 - Jan. 1984 There was a fourth series planned for a 2016 release, called Galaxy Divine Wind Jinraiger (銀河神風ジンライガー, Ginga Jinpū Jinraigā) and the series wouldn't follow the events of the original trilogy. Following the death of Yamamoto in November 2018, the project was cancelled a year later.
