In this zany satire of greed..An aging and fleeing crook"Smiler Grogan"(Jimmy Durante in his last movie)tries to escape two pursing police detectives..unable to lose them..he kills himself by running his car off of the highway and thru a guardrail and off of a cliff.Before he dies..he tells some people about the money that he had stoled from a tuna cannery and that he hide it in a park in Santa Rosita Beach,Cal. Intrquied by the old man's story..the greedy people head for the park..taking along extra treasure seekers..unaware that their every move is being watched by police detective"Capt. Culpepper"(Spencer Tracy). This film has cameos by many comedy performers and character actors. This is also Ms.Zasu Pitts' last movie..she appears briefly as the telephone operator of The Santa Rosita,Beach,Cal. police station.
