The Red Balloon
Release: March 11, 1957

Albert Lamorisse's classic French film about a boy and his unlikely friendship with a giant, red balloon. The balloon seems to have a mind and will of its own, and it follows the boy wherever he goes, wreaking havoc and creating confusion. This multi-award winning 34 minute short (originally titled Le Ballon rouge) has sound, but features no discernable dialog. Writer/director Lamorisse's son, Pascal, starred as the boy. The story was later adapted into a successful children's book, and the film has appeared in classrooms, theatres and on television for decades. The movie has received numerous video releases, and is currently available on DVD.
