Match Game (1973)
Debut: July 02, 1973
Ended: April 20, 1979

Contestants tried to match a panel of six celebrities in answering fill-in-the-blank questions. Host Gene Rayburn asks a series of comedic questions (each featuring the characters Dumb Dora/Donald, Ugly Edna, Old Man Perriwinkle, etc.) , and the panel writes down their answers each on a little blue card. Then the contestant guesses the answer. Each match is a point. When the contestant wins 2 out of 3 games, he or she goes on to play the big money Super Match which can pay off up to $500, then the head-to-head match which can multiply the winning dollar amount 10 times to $5,000 ($10,000 on nighttime run). As of 1978, the famous Star Wheel made it's debut. After the contestant wins the Super Match, he or she has the opportunity to spin the wheel to randomly select the celebrity he or she is playing against. With the wheel's debut, contestant can double his or her winnings as per the golden stars on the wheel's circumference. Contestant can win as much as $10,000 ($20,000 in nighttime). Match Game had a great slew of celebrity panelists, including the unforgetable Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers, Richard Dawson (who later hosted Family Feud on ABC in 1976, and left MG in 1978), Fannie Flagg, Betty White, Patty Duke Astin, Elaine Joyce, Joyce Bulifant, Nipsey Russell, Dick Martin, Debralee Scott, and more. Match Game was later revived on ABC from 1990 to 1991 hosted by Ross Shaffer, and some old-time panelists played along with the later stars. Then the ill-fated 1998-99 revival hosted by Michael Burger started. The Match Game originally aired on NBC from 1962 to 1969 and pitted two teams in trying to match answers for 25 points per match. The winning team vied for $50 per match in the Audience Match. The uk version "BLANKETY BLANK" was hosted by terry wogan, les dawson, and paul o grady".
