Yeah I heard that. There's a rumor going around that Frank Welker already sent in his audition tape to voice Megatron. I'm glad that he's at least getting a chance to audition for the role. I won't be happy until the Voice God is confirmed for the part.

That's awful!

Auditioning! WTF? He's been working almost over twice as long as I've been alive. The Simpsons, G.I. Joe, The Transformers, The guy is a living legend.

If I was Peter I'd be threaten to walk off untill I'd get as many fellow voice actors on board as possible.

Yeah but Peter didn't just get the part. He had to audition for the part just like everyone else. I know it's Frank's bread and butter but still movie parts aren't just given out to whomever wants them. Actors still have to audition for their parts just like everyone else.

Cleleste is right. Several people at Dreamworks didn't even want Cullen to get the part, since he's not a big name in Hollywood. They wanted Hollywood celebrity talent. Don Murphy and a few others pushed for him to be considered because they knew it would get the fans excited, but ultimately he had to audition and prove that he is indeed the right voice for Optimus Prime.

Not even all of the fans agree that Frank Welker would be the best choice for Megatron in the movie. There's no denying that he's one of the very best voice actors in the world, and it would be awesome to have Cullen and Welker reprising their old roles together, but from what we know about Megatron's portrayal in the movie script, his old raspy, screechy voice from the cartoon may just not fit. This Megatron's personality sounds a lot more like the Megatron of Beast Wars or Energon, so many fans are hoping for David Kaye, who played both of those versions of Megatron, to get the part. Most of the hardcore fandom agrees at this point that Beast Wars Megatron is generally the superior Megatron. I'd be happy with either result, honestly. With Welker, we'd have the original Prime versus the original Megatron. With Kaye, we'd have the best Prime versus the best Megatron. If Dreamworks goes with either of the two, I think we still win.

I'd prefer Welker's but that's just me. Honestly though, As long as they use a voice actor from one of the series, I'm happy.

I think it is very disrespectful that they have to audition though, Voice acting is very underrated and even some of the most horrible ones have more range than the best Hollywood star IMO.

I hope Corey Burton does Soundwave again as well.

Its going to be a battle between this, Pirates, and Spidey 3 I think. I'll see them all though on opening weekend though, It already looks to be a much stronger year than this summer.

Anyone think Mark Hammil would do a good job as Starscream? He could use his Hobgoblin voice (from the 90's Spiderman cartoon).

Uh just the thought of that makes me cringe. No offense to any Mark Hamil fans out there but somehow I just don't think his voice is right for Starscream.
I'd prefer to have a voice that sounds almost identical, but doesn't rip off, the voice that Chris Latta did.

Yeah, most of those people are the members of the Don Murphy forum board (he created the board 3 years ago when they first mentioned the live action TF movie to get the fans input on what they wanted).
After the Prime with flames and how people literally flipped It almost seemed like he completely caved to the fans request and pushed for Cullen.

Remember, Murphy, Bay and Spielberg all claim to be TF fans and know about G1 and how adamant the fans are over it.
from what they have said so far is they know what the fans wanted from the get go.

If they don't know about it they could have at least picked up that DK book from a few years ago, It basically gives you the whole history of G1 and BW in layman's terms. I think its out of print now though.

I highly recommend the book if no one here has it yet. Although its in need of an update now.

They probably know of it like most celebrities say they do, Meaning their just only familar with the main characters and not the actual storylines etc. Case in point, If some celebrity tries to talk about Star Wars (not from the movies) on a talk show they usually just end up embarassing themselves.

Thanks for the links above, The first is what I saw at the con although the sound isn't very good on there and the first part of the message got cut off.

Here's a list of Transformers that are either positivly in the film, might be in the film, or are just part of the current run of rumors, thanks to ToyFare.

1: Optimus Prime (DUH!)
2: Bumblebee (We knew this already.)
3: Jazz (I don't think he's going to be a Porsche.)
4: Ratchet (If they don't make him an ambulance, Michael Bay is going to need an ambulance.)
5: Ironhide (So that there is no confusion between him and Ratchet [like there was already], he is to be a pickup.)
6: Megatron (Again, DUH! But this time he's a Cybertronian jet.)
7: Starscream (An F-22 Raptor. Never seen one before, or if I have I don't remember.)
8: Devastator (An M-1 Abrams tank. I would have liked the Constructicons, but I guess that would have made it look too Power Ranger-ish.)
9: Brawl (A police car. Just what we need, a new meaning for police brutality.)
10: Soundwave (He's a boombox, but his robot size is 4½' tall, and he may have his name changed to Soundbyte!)

Edit: Adding to this, read this.
