I saw the Magnetic Video logo on there and the music was very soothing. The announcer said that the movie was an ITC release, though, so it must have been a jolt to go from that soothing music into the ITC tune.

Magnetic Video did films by 20th Century Fox, Avco-Embassy, United Artists (The Transamerica era), ITC, and ABC. 20th Century Fox bought out Magnetic in 1982. UA got bought out by MGM that year, Avco-Embassy became just Embassy. ITC and ABC got their own releases for other companies.

Magnetic Video Corporation reminded me of elevator music, but yes, it was soothing in a corny way. I picture the elevator scene in "The Blues Brothers" when I hear music like that. GAHH!! ITC! Keep it away!

"Media" had an over-the-top cheesy logo in the late 70s, and the announcer for the "Fox Video" thing seemed mildly bored with the whole concept.

Can you imagine this guy going into the room to record his line of dialogue, and him hearing it later on and saying, "what was I thinking? Has anyone ever actually watched a Media movie?"

Much of Media's stock was C-grade dreck. They put out one Peanuts video (It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown)--which I rented after seeing Flashdance.

Anyone ever hear the Simitar music? It sounds like its in attack mode, ready to pounce at any given moment. Too much synthesizer for comfort.

Yes indeed! Media was a company that releases horror films from the 1970's and the 1980's as well as other films including the ZIV shows originally from Japan like "Fables of the Green Forest", "Captain Future", "Little Lulu" and "Angel". I'm not a big fan of horror films at that point, but I've seen one Media release from the 1980's my brother has was "Basket Case". If you watch an early Media logo on YouTube, there was an "I" missing on that logo. They put the words "MEDA", so they forgot to at the "I" and spelled out "MEDIA", it would fit. That early Media logo from the late 70's was short lived as I mentioned before. It was later changed to a different logo from the early 80's using a "Star Wars" motif and it was slightly updated with the same music used in the first logo.

Any way you slice it, it's still a tacky logo!!! Do you think they purposely misspelled Media, or was it just to make it fit????

I think back then it was misspelled, but there was no "I" between "D" and "A".

    Anyway, according to Wikipedia:

Media Home Entertainment is a home video company headquartered in Los Angelas, CA. They were known for releasing many videos throughout the late 1970's until 1992. They ceased full operation in 1992. The only Media Home Entertainment releases I know of are some Peanuts videos and "The Adventures Of The Wilderness Family."

Back in the day, I always thought the scariest, yet coolest, closing logo and theme was on Voltron: the 'World Events Productions' giant earth logo and suspenseful musical track.

I read that the suspenseful musical track was Voltron sound effects. I don't remember much about this one--its been almost fifteen years since I've seen Voltron.

Kimsy, I gotta tell ya that I found the DiC "Inspector Gadget" custom logo you put up on youtube.com. I thank you!! I haven't seen that logo in ten years (the last time I recall seeing "Inspector Gadget" on TV--it was on Nickelodeon in 1996--all original logos intact). I was around 13-14 years old when I saw it, but like I said, it's been a while, so I was thrilled to see it. I showed it to my brother, and he remembered it too (we're fraternal twins and grew up on "Inspector Gadget").

Also, thanks for the DiC "Vortex" and choir version of "Kid in Bed." that is great stuff.

    Awesome stuff. Thanks a million!!!!!

On a sidenote, I just wanted to mention that I am writing an article for the site about a "Saturday Night Live" character. I will let everyone know when it is up--I was working on screencaps last night for it, and they came out great (I'm not uppity on technology, so I took pictures of the stuff with my digital camera off of my TV)--I plan on finishing my screencaps tonight, and writing the rest of the article tonight as well. Busy busy!!!

Here's another fact: The beeping on the background of the SFM logo is actually the morse code for "SFM" repeated over and over. It goes, "dot-dot-dot, dot-dot-dash-dot, dash-dash".

I have been terrified of SfM since Zoobilie Zoo. 2 years ago, I discovered the logo again when it surfaced on my Laugh-In DVDs. I made it a point never to watch Laugh In at night, in the dark. Even worse, at the end of the Laugh In eps, there is a solo clapping that continues after the logo ends and fades to black. Yikes!

I am fine now with seeing sfm in the dark and the last time I saw the custom logo on television was on Nick in 1999. I know it was this year because over the closing credits, you would hear advertising for Spongebob back when the show was new. The old logos remained intact, but I recently remembered that there was a different variation of music for the Vortex. Instead of the synth music, it plays some unrelated fading synth music. Was this on the older variations of Kid in Bed and just a case of bad plastering (No voiceover), or just something different? I also saw some of the 1983 episodes with the Vortex logo and LBS with no sound on either. If someone can put an audio version of the choir on, I can find out if the there is bad plastering (The animation still gets to me). I also think that the Youtube submissions are taken from yahoo groups. The custom logo cuts off the end on both yahoo groups and youtube. The magnetic video versions have different voices though. The youtube version has the ITC and yahoo groups has the Fox and UA versions.

Did the music go, "doo-doo-doo-doo-doo", because I think I remember seeing the Kid in Bed with that music!

Yes, I remember it having five notes to it. It must have been poor plastering from the original Kid in Bed music because it used the vortex graphics from the second season of gadget. That music isn't even that scary (It was a later variation that gave me the creeps). Thanks mr3urious for clearing that up for me.

Chalk it up to bad plastering. I was so excited when I saw the Inspector Gadget custom logo. I heard there is a Littles custom logo as well--where can I find it????

I found the other vortex variation on yahoo groups and the synth theme sounds somewhat suspenseful. I heard that it was on Heathcliff: The Movie and on a Littles movie as well along with the second season of Inspector Gadget. I am beginning to think that the two variations are different because of this.

I actually had a scary logo invade my dream last night. I was on an amusement park ride with my high school classmates. The ride we were on was themed after "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Before the ride began, the 70s ITC logo appeared on the wall with that trumpet fanfare. I got scared and my classmates told me to calm down.

    Pretty interesting, huh?

Wow! That was weird. Sometimes I had dreams about the Walt Disney logo and those other stuff like "Neon Mickey", Mickey on stage, Walt Disney Pictures (as seen on my avatar) and the current one has a flashlight. And let's not forget the fireworks with Tinkerbell popping out of the castle where she flies around and waves her magic wand to start the first act. Just like the old episode intros to the old "Wonderful World of Color"/"Wonderful World of Disney". That would also be part of one of the Disney nightmares.

Where is the FOX logo? Man, that was scary. At the end of a show on FOX, or made by FOX (i.e. M*A*S*H), they'd have the 20th Century Fox logo, and then, out of nowhere, this big word "TELEVISION" appears at the center of the screen and then it would slide into the logo. That's at the end of select Simpsons episodes on the first few seasons on the DVD. Man, I wanna punch the guy who invented that.
And then, the Program Exchange thing. That creeped me out. And the sfv logo thing with the beeping.
    --------------
Do closing themes not made in the 80's but shown in the '80s count? Cuz I'd put Rankin-Bass and the swirling Hanna-Barbera star. That stupid star is at the end of every Powerpuff Girls show! Geez!

Oh yeah, I hated that Fox one, too! They also showed it with Mr. Belvedere, In Living Color, and other shows. I got used to Program Exchange after a while, though.

    The beeping thing...you mean sfm?

Don't knock the HB Swirling Star, that one's a gem!
