One thing about the "V of Doom" logo that I remember was how it reminded me of a wastepaper basket. It used to come on at the end of Barney Miller, and the sound at the end sounded like someone had tossed something into it.

On a somewhat related note, do any of you remember how during the closing credits of Hanna-Barbara cartoons in the 80s, just before the closing logo, they would have a small box with outline drawings of all the characters from that particular show?

On Yahoo Groups, there are the 1976 and 1984 LBS logos. I am trying to find the vortex logo at this time. I am also trying to look for the custom logo and the Colex logo that was owned by LBS and Columbia. The other logo I am looking for is the "Sliding LBS" I remember seeing on a more recent print of Heathcliff that had the Vortex logo and went to the logo where rows of balls come from one side and LBS slides in on the other.

Good luck w/your search. Let me know what you find. Do you have a direct link to the 1976 and 1984 LBS logos? I know the music.

    I do! I do!!!!!

You know, you're right--the V of Doom DOES look like a wastepaper basket.

I wasn't particularly fond of the star/rainbow logo that was resurrected in the 80s, but I certainly don't mind it now, as I've become a logo purist at 23 years old.

Boomerang (I have Boomerang On Demand) is really good w/preservation--they keep their logos intact. On the Smurfs eps, they keep the bumpers that go to and return from commercials intact--"Smurfs Adventures will be right back," and "We now return to Smurfs Adventures." Not that I just absolutely enjoy the Smurfs--I was never much of a fan.

Here is my all-time favorite logo for Walt Disney Pictures. As you may know, I have it on my avatar as describe on the logo.

Here is an update version of a Walt Disney Pictures logo with a flashlight. Maybe if it's not retro, but it's a little scary or maybe not.

I just remember a very strange font after the Jack Horner Productions logo on an old tape (1986 copyright date) with creepy music. The copyright screen looked so freaky because that it was on a black background. Unfortunately, the tape was thrown out a long time ago, so I have no idea to get the memories back of that logo.

I'm not familiar w/that logo--what show/movie did that come from?

It came from some old children's nursery rhyme tape or something of that nature.

    Viacom!

The deep voice that said it always sent chills down my spine when I was young. I also remember giggling everytime "DiC" was said.

I was never scared of closing logos as a kid. But I find them to be a little startling now.

I still don't see why someone would be scared of the original MTM logo (although the Newhart thing I could understand). It's a cute little kitty cat! Same with Ubu. So he looks like a statue, so what?

I have never found Ubu to be scary, but I used to think MTM was scary (The meow of the cat was freaky), but I have got over it a long time ago. I saw that logo on Rescue 911 recently. The cat itself is cute, but it is more like Gizmo cute. There is just something weird about the cat and Gizmo that can't be described.

Don't forget the cat could be used at the end of all MTM shows "Mary Tyler Moore" (the one that it was initialed as MTM in the logo), "The Bob Newhart Show", "WKRP In Cinicinnati", "Hill Street Blues", "Rhoda" and "St. Elsewhere"

Viacom has always left me a little uneasy. Now, the V of Doom is actually kind of funny.

I will never be able to shake that image of Kermit on a camera. Yikes. Why is he laughing like that? And, that "Neon Mickey Mouse" was VERY scary!!!!!!!!! I NEVER liked that logo. Music is too fanfare!!!! And, Paramount...*shudder*.

That Paramount logo is freaky. The cheese factor is off-the-scales and the music is pretty disturbing, too.

The Paramount logo is a strange one. I saw it on an old beta tape once. I don't think it is scary, but the music sounds odd. The Neon logo is an okay logo and is better than that lame Disney Video logo used in the 1990's that is very boring. The Kermit on the camera logo is pretty cool and fits in with the movies that Kermit is in.

I found this rare logo for Media Home Entertainment. This was the very early intro from the late 70's, it is kinda rare. I've never seen this logo in a long time. There was an error in the first Media logo. They put the words "Meda" instead of "Media". The music was kinda relaxing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgGXG6UwSPo

That logo lasted until the early 80's where it was replaced by a different logo with the same music used in the first intro. Guess what, the logo was updated and added the words "Media" instead of that early "Meda" logo as seen in this blurry pic.

They added the words "A Heron Communications Company" on that logo. That also lated until 1987 where it was replaced once again with a different logo with a different music. That logo lasted until the very end.

The sound clip is right here

They also added the announcer saying "From Media Home Entertainment. Distributed by Fox Video" as heard here. That was kinda short lived until they put Media Home Entertainment out of business. I miss the Media logo.

I saw the Magnetic Video logo on there and the music was very soothing. The announcer said that the movie was an ITC release, though, so it must have been a jolt to go from that soothing music into the ITC tune.
