Thread: A toy from circa 1988 that was like styrofoam airplane kites

Here is another obscure commercial that I remember seeing, probably on the WUTV (later Fox) Buffalo 29 channel while watching after-school cartoons, circa 1988. It showed some kids playing with these four (I think it was) airplanes that looked like they were made of styrofoam and they were on strings like kites, I think. The song in the background would have started something like "You're controlling the Air America!" Does this ring a bell? What obscure toy could this have been?

Might have been balsa wood planes. I had one of those at one point.

Were they really large? I remember ones with a wingspan of about 3 feet but not strings. You just threw them like a glider.

There was a much smaller one on a wire with electric motor that just flew in a circle around your head.

I think these were pretty large, the fuselage would have been at least a foot and a half across, maybe even two feet. They may also have been delta-winged, though I'm not sure after all these years.

Good guess, but I don't think so. I think they were more delta-shaped and quite frankly, a bit cartoonish-looking.
