Anyone know why Nintendo does not make a "throwback" system that has a ton of games pre-programmed --- like Atari & Sega???

Or does anyone think they will someday???

Probably not when they can charge $5 per game via their Virtual Console feature on the Wii/Wii U.

Pretty much what Vapor said. Nintendo's already making a decent income from their Virtual Console service, and to offer a throwback console in the style that Sega and Atari did wouldn't make much sense. Offering their classic games on their current gen systems gives people more of a reason to own their hardware as not everybody owns the original consoles. Atari and Sega no longer make their own consoles, so for those companies to come out with a Throwback system made by a third party hardware manufacturer (in this case, AtGames) is more justified. Nintendo is way too big of a company to resort to doing such a thing.

Plus, the emulation to these flashback consoles aren't even that great. Sure, the Sega ones run the original cartridges, but you're much better off getting some of these games through compilation titles such as Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, or even just getting them off the Wii Virtual Console. Or better yet, just find an original Sega Genesis. Plus, if you can find a good RGB upscaler (I'd recommend the XRGB Framemeister) with SCART cables to connect to your Genesis, then you'll be able to play the original cartridges in such amazing HD-like quality.

You mean the big one? That thing was awesome.

And as for the throwback system... nah, Nintendo wouldn't do that, they like everything to be digital nowadays.

Nintendo, sony, and microsoft will not be releasing such throwback systems in the foreseeable future. Why? Simple, look at what all the existing throwback systems have in common: The companies don't make systems anymore.
As long as a company is still making new systems they don't need to keep their brand alive, they don't need to make extra money, they can re-release their old games as digital downloads, etc. Whereas companies who no longer make systems need throwback systems for all the above reasons.
