Circus is a good show too. Totally different from the Monkees. If you get Antenna tv they show it on that channel on Sunday mornings.

I actually remember Micky Dolenz from his first TV show "Circus Boy" which went into syndication back in the early 60's and he was in various garage bands during his college years.

But Davy Jones was new to me back then. I remember his interview from either the "David Frost Show" or the "Dick Cavet Show" where he talked about starring in the musical, "Oliver!", as the Artful Dodger.

But then he said something unexpected. When asked if his stage career led to his role in "The Monkees", Davy replied, "oh nooo . . . have you heard me sing?, they hired me because i was cute and had a British accent. While Micky was the lead singer he worked the drums in the back so they put me in front cuz I'm so adorable".

Omg I thought I was gonna die laughing. But that's the ting about Davy, he never really took himself all that seriuosly, he enjoyed the time he had with friends and fans alike.

How about that? I grew to like him myself.

It was a real perspective giver for me hearing he died. I never actually watched the show, but I LOVED the theme song. (Same situation with All in the Family) And in the theme song this was a verse of the lyrics:

We're just trying to be friendly,
Come watch us sing and play.
    We're the young generation,
And we got something to say.

At one time, Dave along with the rest of the Monkees more or less represented the youth. They were young, carefree, and happy. Now those guys are old men!

Yes I got an earfull of Davy and the gang thanks to my older sister and her crazy friends back in 1966.
They turned The Monkees into must see TV every week. These were my grade school years and the Monkees became harmless entertainment during the 1966/1967 television season during the "Go-Go" 60's.

While the Beatles were known as the "Fab Four", according to wikipedia - "critics of the Monkees observed that they were simply the 'Pre-Fab Four', a made-for-TV knockoff of The Beatles".

A funny thing happened as the years went by, Davy and the other "fake" band members proved to growing numbers of fans that entertainment can take many paths and forms. 20 years after their network airing, repeats of The Monkees appeared on early SatAM in the Phoenix area and I was stunned by how much fun it was to see these guys ham it up for the camera.

Did these guys really like each other or was it all a put on? From the broadcasts, talk show appearances, stage shows and local-live events set all around the country; it sure looked like genuine good times. An innocent kind of fun that, for lack of a better term, is ageless.

    REST IN PEACE DAVY JONES

RIP, he was a damned good singer.

I loved listening to old music thanks to my mom and dad and enjoyed Monkees music.

I'm very saddened by this. He was my favorite Monkee. I was just listing to their songs yesterday.

Antenna Tv will be showing a Monkees marathon starting Saturday.

This came as a shock to me. Many men have heart attacks at this age. Unfortunately some don't get help in time to get a second chance.

What's surprising is that the news said Davy completed his physical a few weeks ago and was completely fine. When I saw the last picture of him, I swear he didn't even look like he was in his sixties.

RIP Davy Jones I remember when he made an appearance on Sabrina the teenage witch

His appearance was cute and funny > "Who has their hand on my bum?" Then they do the little walk dance. Whole episode was good.

Oh my God! He was young!! The Monkees kicked so much ass! I still love to listen to their stuff.

He technically wasn't the lead singer, they all took turns in songs (with the possible exception of Peter).

R.I.P. Davy ~ wonderful entertainer and "monkee".
