Speaking of hoodies my job just recently banned them because they didn't like employee's walking around with them on. Hoodies tend to be associated with thugs. When I listen to the police scanner you will always hear the police say "the suspect was wearing a hoodie" and it's 90 F outside. I personally think it's silly to assume someone is a thug for wearing one, but I can kind of see why people do.

As for rather or not Trayvon was a thug I really don't know. I have seen teens change over night from being a good kid to being a complete piece of garbage. There are a lot of social pressure for young people and the wrong crowd can really change a person. I saw it a lot back when I was in high school and I still see it today. The trouble at school and the rapid transformation doesn't look good.

There really is not enough information yet to call Z man a murder. Based on what I know a manslaughter charge may be appropriate, but even that might be hard to prove in a court of law. This is especially true if he had a broken nose and scratches as stated. The public wants a murder conviction, but I just don't see it happening.

^ Media love this things. The more they can scrap the better.

It doesn't matter if the "suspect" is a good or bad person. Sure, if said person is considered dangerous with a criminal background there are rules/protocols to follow. Gun-trotting Columbine is not.

This case is getting more and more skewed. On one side the media seems to portray Trayvon as sort of a nerdy kid, then on the other side we have the complete opposite, showing a kid who seems to be a trouble maker. Regardless I think the bottom line is that Zimmerman should have minded his own business and stopped trying to play Captain Neighborhood. It was a gated community for crying out loud, that right there tells me it's probably all upper middle class. However, I think the media is trying to get a bigger rise out of people by posting those old pictures of Trayvon in collared shirts and what not.

This guy needs to be put in jail, He was instructed by the 911 operator not to pursue him and he chose to disobey that order and kill a kid (he was 17 years old, and i don't care how tall he is or if he smokes weed or whatever he's a fucking kid)Zimmerman does seem like a busy body, he should have minded his own business i don't think i've heard any report that said Trayvon was doing harm to anyone at the time he was pursued so why would this asshole have to initiate a situation after he was TOLD NOT TO BY THE 911 OPERATOR. I hope they lock the peice of shit up and throw away the key he must think we're pretty dumb to think that a 17 year old kid would start to aggressively attack him while he has a gun and the kid has an iced tea, now thats some bullshit

"Stand your Ground" doctrine is legit

All the facts need to be sorted out, everyone's jumping to conclusions

I think that's the main problem right there. That law makes easy for anyone to get away with the 'self-defence' excuse because one can attack FIRST when they think they feel threatened and say "Oh, he was reaching for something which I thought was weapon" and cops will buy it with little fuss and you can't really blame them.

If Zimmerman had waited AS INSTRUCTED by the 911 operator I'm sure things would have been different but since he felt he just had to be the neighbourhood hero (with a gun which was probably 'compensating for something' tiny), he's created a shit-storm form for himself.

Doesn't matter if Trayvon was a bad kid (aren't most teens like that whether black or white?), he didn't have weed on him that day he had skittles

Hopefully this case wont get in the way of this Ben Stiller movie when it comes out

You're only allowed to use necessary force to repel the attack (I'm in law school homie)

Without the doctrine you would be legally penalizing people for defending themselves from an attacker

i.e. a woman pushes a rapist off of her, he falls and breaks an elbow then sues her.

In this instance it appears that deadly force was not justified and yeah I totally agree that Zimmerman shoulda listened to the cops, his Stand your Ground defense claim will prolly fail after undergoing a trier of fact.

That article is bullshit. It makes me angry. Martin had tattoos and a gold grill? So what, that is normal and stylish to him. Besides, he was wearing a hoodie so it's not like Zimmerman could see that. So it's just about character assassination. As you said bassman, it's just photos skewing people's perceptions. Or rather people looking for something to support their preconceptions. About black people. (Scary black people. Not the nice ones. Just the gangbangers. And the ones on welfare. I know 'em when I see 'em.)

Zimmerman called 911 because he didn't recognize someone who was going to the store. Newsflash: that is fucked up. And he was told to leave Martin alone, and he didn't. If he is so scared of strangers that he can't even politely approach to talk to someone then he shouldn't be on neighborhood watch. He should be alone in the mountains or in a gated community. Now he belongs in jail instead.

This business about Martin being a "thug" or selling drugs or whatever is irrelevant. Zimmerman didn't know it. At the time of the encounter, Martin posed no danger until he was accosted. If it had gone the other way and Zimmerman died in the fight that ensued, would the self-defense law still apply? I bet the people who defend Zimmerman now would not be so enthusiastic about it.

The monsters are on Maple Street.

Trayvon was supposedly on a 10 day suspension at the time of the shooting for assaulting as bus driver.

Here is a good write-up about the side the media isn't telling us including a link to his myspace worth checking ou.

Again Zimmerman screwed up when he got out of his car, but we don't know what happened after that.

At one point the guy says "These assholes, they always get away". Sounds like the man was harboring some beef. Let's just hope this doesn't turn into another Rodney King case because that;s the last thing we need right now.

There is no jumping to conclusions. he made a 911 call he should have never made to begin with. a black kid in a hoodie with skittles and ice tea is not a reason. He followed and confronted this kid after he was told to stay put. The kid notices somebody following him with a gun and is scared, confrontation occurs and he is dead. This guy needs to be in jail. He was over zealous and wanted to be a hero in his neighborhood, instead he shot an innocent kid walking home from the local 7-11.

The guy definitely comes off as a gun toting busy body with a chip on his shoulder. Before actually seeing photos of Trayvon I had a mental picture of a ghetto looking punk. But he looks like a a good, clean cut kid! I saw today though he had previously been expelled for having an empty weed bag (Yeah, I don't know what the heck that means either) and apparently witnesses saw Trayvon attacking Zimmerman. Although I think Zimmerman was looking for a reason to shoot, I think there's a lot more to what went down. I wasn't there, so I won't make a overall judgement though.

The pics that the media keep showing are from a couple of years ago. He was over 6 foot tall and looked older before he died. It looks like they deleted his facebook page, but before it was deleted there was a picture of (someone) shooting both middle fingers. Of course this doesn't make him a bad kid (if that was him), but it goes to show how the photo's being shown can skew people's perception.

His family is really serious about Zimmerman being brought to justice. I hope he will be someday.
