So ive been on 3 interviews within the past 2-21/2 weeks. Ist one was the day after the 4th of July, the guy said give him a wk and he would call me with his decision. A week went by, didnt hear from him, so I call him. He picks up, I say wh oI was, and he goes, "Who?!" I tell him again and hes like , "Oh ok. what happened?" I tell him I just wanted to get an update on the position, he goes, "what position", I say the position I interviwed for last week. He tells me they were still doing interviews and then theyll make their decision... havent heard back since.

Then I had an interview a few days later. The lady said she would call me by the end of the next day. She didnt call either, so I decided to call her and get an update. Of course i could only get the secretary and she said something like, "yeah she was putting the paper work for the position, whats your name" I tell her my name and the position i applied for and she tells me she'll call me when she gets back in.. she never called. That was last week.

Yesterday, I had another interview and the lady said she would call me by today.. Well the days over and she hasnt called. Doubt shell call tomorrow.

It sucks, Ive been down the past few days cause of this, but my wife keeps saying we'll be fine...but Im calling her bluff. I wouldnt be so mad if I wasnt hired if they would just have the decency to atleast CALL and tell me I didnt get the job instead of just avoiding me and never responding back to a simple phone call. Its not right to tell someone you interview to expect a call on this certain day and never call.. this is peoples lives your dealing with.

Companies usually don't call to tell you that you didn't get the job and dodging when you call is very common. Many do send a letter by snail mail or email telling you that you didn't get the position.

I know what you're going through. I learned a long time ago that few companies hire based on qualifications. Instead they hire the person they like the most which is why they will end up with so many bad employees. It's easy to get lost in the shuffle when they are interviewing so many people, especially if you don't stand out. It's even worse when you have to interview with multiple people. It only takes one person to say they didn't like you and your app goes in the recycle bin.

I think the whole job hiring process is a joke and such a waste of time for people. They ask the same freaking questions out of a book and the person with the most bullshit gets hired. They make you take all these BS test and call you back for second and third round interviews. Then end up hiring someone else.

Hang in there, you'll get your break.

I hate that I remember literally having to call about 20 times trying to get a hold of the same damn person at one job and FINALLY got a hold of him by email and he responded. I remember thinking "Why don't you people answer your phones??" Then after all that they will say they are not hiring, yet they will leave the "now hiring" sign up in the window and never take it down. My mom used to tell me "The squeeky wheel gets the grease" when she'd encourage ME to keep calling THEM when I didn't hear from them, but even being "harassing" as I felt I was being, sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn't

What you're going through is sooo typical. Bassman21 is correct, only the hired candidate gets a callback. Everyone else gets the silent treatment.

I've been through awful interviews but I've never seen the level of disregard so many job seekers endure now. None of it is fair. Employers call all the shots and everyone looking for work must jump through the hoops.

Well, you know my stance on the current education market. Don't take the hiring process too personally, they have hundreds of applicants per position these days so you'll rarely get communication from them. Definitely don't expect it, just be surprised when they send you something. And give yourself a pat on the back for every interview you get because that is one of the hardest parts now. I've literally had no interviews for this year. It's gotten that bad.

I know you are under a crunch, but desperation never helped anyone... except for that guy in Pursuit of Happyness. Make sure you have a killer cover letter- something with what I call "professional personality" that will make them think you're cool to work with. Every teacher has the right qualifications these days, so you need to focus on how you'll fit in with the school culture and be an asset to the team.

With that said, I've developed a new rule about jobs- if they do not hire you on the spot or schedule another interview with you before you leave, you are not getting hired. Every job I have ever had has always been a quick hiring process. They know when you walk through the door whether or not they want you. In some cases, they have a top candidate in mind based on the resumes, so they're just keeping you around as back up.

Could you imagine how shitty your job would be if you had to interview a bunch of losers, and then later call each and every one of them at home to inform them that they didn't get the job?

If you get an interview and don't hear back the best advice I can give you guys is ring the interviewer up and ask why you didn't get the job and that way you can get feedback and try and find out why that candidate was chosesn and not you.

That has been helpful to me in the past

Excellent advice from Captain N and be sure to get a business card during the tnterview, or ask for and write down the interviewer's name and number. I'm doing a lot more follow-up now just in case another/different position opens since the interview.

Agreed. Back in the day I always used to get a letter in the mail saying I wasn't hired. These days, I don't think it's expected.

Did you try going to a temp service, you know, to get something to hold you over?

I usually get an e-mail saying I didn't get the job. It's always the same thing: "We looked at your resume, but we feel you're not what we are looking for at the moment" I smell bullshit on the we looked at your resume part, I seriously doubt they looked at it.

I've applied for an Admin. Assistant at a local beach club, I hope I get a call for an interview.

Another advice i can give you regarding feedback is recognise bullshit I've been there myself and for all know they could have given the job to someone they knew or even their own family member but just telling you this becasue they wanted an excuse not to employ you.

I'm looking for work at the moment but here in the UK jobseeking sucks as we're in a recession and hundreds of people apply for jobs these days.

Good luck with the job BTW

That's what my parents say like 'always speak up and let others know you're there' kind of thing. What you mentioned there is exactly how I feel. The whole "I think I'm annoying them to death" routine. But it's like how many TIMES do you need to send an application/resume to that same spot when they are in need of hiring people? Argh!

But really, The_Batman, I know five, maybe more people, and myself that are in the same position as you. Don't feel too bad. Best of luck finding a job though

I just had an interview today for a job I really want. It's an admissions job at the school of cosmetology down the street, which would be a perfect career change for me. I made sure to look really good, too. Threw on a necklace at the last minute that I got complimented on. The interview went well, but of course, they didn't make future plans with me, so I'm not holding my breath. They gave me a tour of the school before I left, but it was kinda half-hearted. They did say that they had to have a meeting to decide who to hire, so I'm at least hoping for a "thanks for coming" phone call this week.
