I thought he was trying to catch it for his son. I feel bad for the family and stuff, but not as much as I do his son. I'm sure that from that point forward, he will hate the game of baseball and always associate it with the death of his father. I'm sure it was psychologically traumatizing to see something like that, even though, iirc, some people nearby were trying to shield the boy from seeing what was exactly happening.

I was thinking that too. These types of events are extremely traumatizing for anybody at the scene, especially a family member.

I heard that their now trying to ban players from throwing the balls into the stands because of this. Really? Why can't they just put nets around areas like that so that way if people fell they would be caught. I think that's more reasonable than banning players from giving balls to people.

Also, I think there's another reason this guy fell: his footwear. He was wearing flip flops, and we all know it's a lot harder to grip to the ground while wearing flip flops.

This was just a accident in my opinion. It was tragic for the family, and I feel bad for them. But if baseball was just to make a couple of different safety measures, instead of making a stupid rule like that, stuff like this wouldn't occur as much.

I thought it was extremely rude for the media to keep replaying his fall over and over especially in slow motion. They have no respect for his family and friends.

Okay, I feel sorry for the guy. Accidents happen, but thats life. What I'm truly disgusted by, is that the news was showing the footage of him falling, over and over.

I was thinking the same thing. We were eating lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings Friday and the clip of the guy falling kept getting replayed by ESPN, etc. on all the 30Ft TVs over and over again.

It really sickens me that the media is careless.

I just read that a funeral for the fallen Rangers fan who plummeted to his death was held today with full service rites, because he was an 18-year member of his local fire department, as well as becoming a two-time firefighter of the year, and becoming lieutenant shortly thereafter. He even worked as a paramedic, a rescue technician at Texas Motor Speedway, and a disaster-relief volunteer for victims of Katrina and Ike. Here is the full story:

Yeah but owners are greedy enough that they wouldnt put up a net.It wouldnt do much good anyway.

No I dont think they will ban players not to throw balls to the crowd. It was an accident.Maybe they could encourage them not to throw to fans in dangerous high spots though.

Wasnt someone killed by a foul ball eariler this season? You cant net everything then people will complain that they cant see the game through the net.Its a chance you take going to a sports event

but you don't crack jokes about something as serious as someone falling 20-30 feet.

What people consider funny these days is pretty fucked up.
This is something I would expect "1000 ways to die" to take and twist to make him look like a douche and make his death "Look funny"
