I work with some younger guys and last night I played "Smack my Bitch Up" by Prodigy. Still one of the craziest I've seen and they were shocked MTV played it in the 90's.

Any other videos you guys can think of that were "banned"?

This is the only one I can think off at the top of my head - it was banned from both MTV and VH1 after they had aired it one time each in the spring of 2001 (when I was nearing the end of seventh grade):

MTV's Most Controversial Videos: http://www.mtv.com/onair/controversialvideos/controvids.jhtml Some of them have obviously gained more acceptance on-air over time (think: editing), which is a good thing to see.

I remember this video vaguely since it was banned. I remember an old lady in it riding around with Madonna or something. I also remember liking the video and the song. Going to take a look.

Yeah, this was a remix. I don't remember the video using a remix.

I didn't have cable growing up, so I'm relatively clueless to all these banned videos. It's not a common practice anymore. I would imagine that everything changed on TV after the Janet Jackson incident, which was around the time we started getting MTV/VH1. The really bad ones probably would never air or get edited before debuting.

It mentions Nine Inch Nails' Closer yet doesn't mention their Happiness in Slavery music video (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happiness_in_Slavery) which is far more disturbing than any imagery in Closer.

i remember being eleven or so and my dad got me a bunch of CDs with female singers -- including the madonna discography -- and the actual version of that song (the one in the video is a remix as far as i know) was so amazing to me i thought it was the greatest ever.

i have no idea why this was banned though? it's not exactly shocking...
Probobly the meaningless violence, pointing a "gun" at cops even though its a water gun. Stealing a guys car and trying to run him over. America is way too touchy.

Thanks for the link. I would have never thought Baby One More Time lol. I forgot "Criminal" by Fiona Apple, I liked that video as a kid.

Compared to some things posted here, these are tame but were considered "evil" and bad when I was a teen / kid.

The original Frankie Goes to Hollywood "Relax" video.

Also Petshop boys "Money" video.

Getting aroused while being killed in a chair that mutilates then turns you into mush. Yeah, Happiness in Slavery is pretty fucked up. But it never aired on MTV, so it won't make the list. I still have the Broken VHS, the ending is really fucked too.
