Do you guys think that such shows like Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? and Don't Forget the Lyrics could have had better chance at ratings stabs back in mid-1980s syndication?

In my mind, probably not, given the success of the syndicated version of Wheel of Fortune which is still a ratings powerhouse after all those years ago. Remember when there had been more and more syndicated game shows competing against Wheel, such as The Joker's Wild, Press Your Luck and Scrabble??? Some had been cancelled on the spot (after about three months on the air) while others were marginally successful and ran from a minimum of one whole year to five years before their sudden cancellations.

Also... do you think that Pop Idol/American Idol, Nashville Star and The X-Factor could have slammed it against the likes of Solid Gold and Star Search? Maybe, because there was no Internet to do "online voting" for your favorite star.

I always thought survivor would be a good show during the 80's because there was less technology so people couldn't vote online to vote off a member.
