I don't know how to use DVR and could never see myself actually having something like that. If I miss something, I miss it.

That aside, it's rare that I'd tape anything in this day and age anyway. Not enough on interesting enough for me to want to. Anyway, I used to set the VCR to tape stuff when I was a kid, especially when I was in school. Seems I did the most taping of stuff back in the mid 90s and prior.

There are not so much programs worth doing "crazy" stuff now. DVR seems worthless to me.

Simple. We had blank VHS tapes and a VCR. Inserted the tape into a VCR, set the timer and BAM! it's recording. No need to stay home waiting for your shows when it was a beautiful day out.

I remember having more than one VCR hooked up so we could tape more then one show at a time. it was simple really, just hook up a splitter to the main cable line, then go from the splitter to the video IN on the vcr and then video OUT to the TV. You needed an A-B Switch to do this and it worked! Was awesome actually.

I used to tape NBC's entire Saturday Morning Cartoons and I think CBS as well. BUT unfortunately those tapes got used by my parents and I dont have them anymore. Somewhere in the house I think we might still have some VCR tapes from back then, I gotta look for them and see if I can find them.

I used to record Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and The SMB Super Show... sometimes I'd record over my parents' stuff accidentally thinking my tape was in the machine when it wasn't; but then again, they'd record over mine all the time, so it was a double-edged sword.

What I hated most about using VHS tapes as a kid was when I *think* there's enough room on the tape to fit another show, I'd start recording, but it turns out to not be enough and I'd end up with only part of a show. D'oh! That and my parents' old VCR once ate one of my favorite tapes. We had to pry that sucker out... I was pretty sad that day.

Anyone else spend a day with a stack of rental tapes and daisy-chain 2 VCRs together?

The last time I did this was to get The Ring and Ringu (the original Japanese) on the same tape. That takes patience and commitment.

@marvel : Any store that sold movies, generally sold blank tapes. I remember getting them from Walgreens, Blockbuster or Meijer (local grocery / superstore)

Before VHS (or Beta for that matter) was within reach of the average home, we (teens) absolutely HAD to be home or at a friends house for the beginning of Saturday Night (Live).

If someone was having a party, they'd better have a TV set up for 11:35pm or else the party fizzled out around 11:00.

Sex, drugs and Rock'n Roll... 2 out of 3 had to be put on hold during the show

For us, it was the original "Must see TV".
