Just kind of curious here, who here is still close with their childhood best friends? (Not high school friends, but elementary best friends)

It's weird because my oldest best friend for 20 years now and I are still tight and talk all the time even though we live in different places (though it does help that our parents still live 5 houses down from each other, so we see each other on the holidays) but when she came to visit and people asked how long we had been friends, they were shocked that we had been friends that long...is this really rare?

Two of my best friends now I met in elementary school. I don't think it's uncommon at all, but generally you lose way more childhood friends than you keep (at least it was that way for me).

I am still best friends with one person from elementary school. The rest of them, who cares?

My best friend from childhood committed suicide this time about 2 years ago. I never did find out why he did it . Pretty sad.

Hmm, nope! I know a guy from when I was around 5. See him around town every now and then. We'll stop and chat. But we both went down completely different roads.

Yep, the dude I hung out with as a baby is still my best bud. Though we did take a strange road before eventually realising it.

It's a lot easier for this to happen if you grew up in a smaller town.

The owner of the company I work for and the general manager has been friends since the 3rd grade. They are close to 40 years old now.

I stopped talking to my friend I knew since high school (18 years) a few months back. I have known my oldest friend that I still talk to regularly for 10 years now. I still talk to friends I have known since middle school online. Most of the people I knew in elementary school now live well outside the city.

I long to be close again to my best best friend from childhood. We talk very rarely on facebook these days. I've never had anyone i've been closer to other than my husband. I've had friends, friends I still talk to, that I have never gotten close to like I did her. It's weird, because she moved away when we were both 12 going on 13, so now at this point she's been living where she is living for longer than we were best friends but when I come back home to visit sometimes she is able to fly up and visit as well so we can hang out. Life is so hectic these days and we are both so different than we were back then. I remember how much it sucked going from her practicly living at our house on weekends and during the summer to her not being there with me when I was about to turn 13 and starting junior high at a brand new school they made all us kids transfer to when our tiny school closed down.

I remember when she came up to visit me in my apartment back in 2000 when my at the time boyfriend was living with me. It was VERY akward. Since she had moved away when we were 12, we had never been through what friends go through when they both start dating. So it was kind of a weird akward jealousy/put in the middle sort of thing. That visit didn't go well. However the next time she visited I was no longer with that guy and we had a lot more fun and both realized we had acted weird the summer before. I haven't been home to visit in over 3 years now so she hasn't been up to visit my home state either.

I had two friends I considered my best friends as a kid. The one I was the closest to and considered him a brother ended up marrying my ex of 4 years. Caught them running around behind my back not long after we broke up. Hated him for several years until I met my much hotter wife. The other had multiple run ins with the law and I haven't seen him since high school. On a lighter note, so far , one of my good childhood friends later became my brother-in-law.

I haven't seen any of my childhood friends (as in, pre-high school) in years. I have no idea what they're doing. It's kind of sad, since I haven't really even thought about them. Until now, that is.

Until recently I was still really close to my childhood best friend, but since he had their 2nd kid he has become a paranoid, almost schizophrenic fucking moron and all he does is neglect his family and sit around and drink and play PS3 while feeling sorry for himself, and he is about to lose his wife, kids and everything, but has his head so far up his own self centred ass to realize. It's too bad too, we had been friends for over 26 years. I still also keep in relatively close contact to 2 brothers I hung out with from age 5 til highschool but had lost touch for 10+ years, thru the wonders of facebook.

I am still in contact with only one of my friends from elementary school...but I only hear from him every once in a while. He actually used to bully me back in kindergarten, and than we became friends by 2nd grade.

Too true. Growing up, many friends turned against me (Or who I thought were friends) and as soon i made some I lose others or some I've stayed with Turned Traitor and screwed me over various times. Sometimes the best friends are the ones the stay the furthest away......

Bingo. Unfortunately my childhood crowd were mostly overachievers, so many of them went away to awesome schools and now have awesome jobs in awesome places. I also moved away from home, so that didn't help. I have trouble keeping up with college friends, too, although one of them does live with me.

Which reminds me, I recently found out that two of my childhood friends actually live within 15 minutes of me (somehow.) Maybe we could get together before New Year's.

It almost saddens me to say this, but I had lost contact with most of my childhood friends until we all found each other on Facebook. FB has its uses if not abused.

I hardly talk to anyone I knew in public school, except for this girl I knew back then, we never talked much then but now we are best friends, she's like a sister to me, she does however live pretty far from me, so I only get to talk to her on msn.

When I was in primary school, me and my mates Daniel and Dom tied ourselves together with a rope and tried to walk. We fell over and Dom accidentally kicked me in the lip while trying to get up. It left a small scar that still hasn't completely gone.
I can't think of anything worth putting as a signature.
