My family used to use a fake tree for many years. We now use real trees. I think real trees are better because they make your house smell like christmas.

There were spruce trees all around the place where I grew up, so we had a real one almost every year. It was nice, but messy, and the cats always gave it hell.

My brother's allergic to pine, so we've been using the same fake tree for 15 years, although we did use a real one a couple years ago. My God, did it look & smell nice, with the lights and garlands, and the fresh pine scent

Since I work at a department store, we sell real trees and I always go outside and stand beside them on my breaks just for the smell, even if its really cold out.

I'll be getting a big 7 foot REAL tree next week and I'm super excited!

Some douchebag already snagged the "real" tree that I was going to poach from the local cemetary that I had my eye on so it looks like it's going to be a Radiohead "fake plastic"Christmas for me.

Fake. And we've had fake trees every year except for one year and that tree almost ruined our Christmas. The tree as I remember it, got too dry too fast and it ended up falling over and destroying a few priceless ornaments. And then a week before Christmas, we rushed out and bought an easy to assemble artificial tree. It's color coded and everything snaps together easily. It's now about ten years old and starting to fall apart a little bit. For this reason, we might hunt out a new one when all the stores start having after Christmas sales. Speaking of "after-Christmas", I honestly can't stand Christmas any more and I honestly can't wait for it to be over.

Ya our tree last year was dry and it wouldn't drink the water so it must have been dead or dieing. the needles were falling of like crazy. Usually, once we get the tree inside, no needles fall off until we get rid of it. Last year was also the first year we bought one from a different place.

Finally got our tree last night. Probably the worst one we've had in a while. It has a lot of holes. but fixing it up will be fun. The hassles of real trees are like a christmas tradition, I love it! The house smells great. Prob gonna decorate tonight.

fake trees for us. Its just easier to maintain... plus we have enough to do for christmas besides vaccuming up needles and all that sap and worrying about watering . Especially since my mom goes nuts and puts up 3 trees

I personally use a fake one. It's been used in my family since I was born, and it's still just as great looking as I remember.

I'd rather use a real tree. The smell of pine throughout the house is half of what makes Christmas Christmas.

Yeah. To me, a fake Christmas tree is a fake Christmas. no offense to those who have fakes ones though, its just how i feel.

You have a link for the cancer tree study? If not, I call bullshit. Specifically, because of this:

"All artificial Christmas trees contain polyvinyl chloride. According to the Children's Health Environmental Coalition, PVC creates and disperses dioxins, which include the most toxic chemical known to man"

If you live in a house that was built in the last 20 years, your water and sewer pipes are made of PVC. The statement in the first post is conveniently leaving out one important fact. PVC is only toxic when heated. Unless you're setting up your fake tree 6 inches from the fireplace, your baby won't be getting cancer from it.
