Thread: Which of the original four "Castlevania" games is the hardest?

I always thought the second one was the hardest. Mainly because it's not your basic fight through the level, beat the boss, then go on to the next level so on and so on gameplay like the other games were. In this one you have to find all these secret passages to get the special items you need to get to the final battle with Dracula. And it's like, how do you know where to look? I watched the speed run for it on Youtube. And as I did I said to myself "I'm so glad I didn't play this game when I was little." I did enjoy the speed run though. Which game do you think is the hardest?

II is difficult without help from Nintendo Power.

III is by far the toughest.

Original FOUR Castlevania games? You're not a real fan unless you've played and include Castlevania Bloodlines for the Sega Genesis and a few of the early "The Castlevania Adventure" games on the Game Boy. Don't deny the Genesis any credit where credit is due. It's so shallow nowadays to bash Sega.

I didn't know there was a "Castlevania" game for Sega. I only knew about the ones for the original Nintendo, Game Boy, and Super Nintendo. And I'm not bashing Sega. The "Sega Genesis was the only retro console I owned, and I liked it a lot. And still do.

I just watched the speed run for "Bloodlines" on Youtube today. I'm not saying it's a lousy game or anything, but compared to the other "Castlevania" games, it's not up to snuff.

Castlevania III is by far the most difficult game in the original series that I've played so far.

However, I still have yet to start playing Super Castlevania IV.

Being a long time castlevania fan I would have to say the first Castlevania is difficult but beatable. I never stomached the 2nd game (no online or nintendo power aid), and 3 is by far the hardest.

However, I enjoyed bloodlines more than the first three due to its beauty, music, and the addition of the Morris clan.

Once you learn their patterns, they're all pretty easy. However, Castlevania III still has its difficult moments, like the Ghost Ship level or the Doppleganger fight. So in the end, Castlevania III.

The first Castlevania was only difficult when you ran into the fifth level. The cause? The Grim Reaper, who is pretty difficult.

What makes the third one so hard? When I watched the speed run for it, it looked like it was easier than you guys say it is. I know speed runs make games look a lot easier than they actually are, but the speed run for the second one made it look like it was harder than the third one.

It's easy to me now since I've played through it a few times (different routes), but again, some levels and boss fights are tough.

It's hard to say between 1 and 3. I'm going to have to say 1. 2 is unplayable in my opinion.
