These things are pretty damn cool. You just turn one on, watch it do its thing and let the good times roll. Did anyone own a lava lamp?

I have one someplace. I'm almost certain I need a jar of wax. I had two different colors. A bluish purple one and a red.

You're not supposed to touch the liquid with bare hands. I think there's a warning about that.

For several years I had one with blue liquid and green wax at the top and yellow at the bottom. At full power the two globs of wax would merge together and make a really bright lime green. Now I have a really big one with yellow liquid and red wax.

I never had a traditional one. I did want one when I was a kid but I was always afraid I would burn myself on it or knock it over and break it. Now I have a large circular one with blue liquid and pink wax that lights up and spins. It's pretty cool but it's kind of loud.
Recipe for nostalgia: Mix 80's and 90's culture. Stir in some good memories. Add a dash of reflection. Mixture should now taste bittersweet. Shake well and enjoy!

I had a blue one in college, because blue is my favorite color.

I remember an episode of Myth Busters showing the hazardous effects if the lamp is heated using other devices... wich is what happened to a kid that was killed after attempting to heat up the lamp in a stove *I think it was a stove*.

Yeah, the liquid inside of the lamps is high in VOCs and can cause liver problems if it gets absorbed through your skin.

On the show A 1000 Ways to Die a guy died trying to heat one up in the microwave.

They microwaved one on Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This as well. I think they forced the microwave to stay closed and the glass broke and the liquid and melted wax poured out of the microwave once they opened it. They concluded you can speed heat a lava lamp in a microwave but don't leave it in for long.

Why would someone heat up a lava lamp in a microwave?
