This is kind of a dumb question, I don't know if this has ever been asked and if it has feel free to link me to the thread and lock this one.

So you know how each decade in the 20th century had a nickname, naught naugts-00, roaring 20s, thrifty 30s, fabulous 40s, fantastic 50s, psychedelic 60s, super 70s, awesome 80s (I probably have some of these wrong)

What was the name given to the 90s?

I've heard the term "nasty 90s," but when I type it in google I can't seem to find it anywhere. So does anyone have any idea of what name was coined for it?

Also anyone know if there's a name for the 00s yet?

I've heard different expressions than the ones you used.

Roaring 20s, Dirty Thirties, Fighting Forties, Fabulous Fifties.

So I guess it's what ever you want it to be. From now on when I talk about the 90s. I'm going to refer to that decade as "Fran"

I don't think the 90's were particularly cynical. That's much more of a 00's thing.

I don't know, what does Xtreme have to do with the 90s? It doesn't even start with the same letter...

It has to be a word that starts with the same letter or else it doesn't make sense. The only exception is Roaring 20s.

    Nasty 90s? Gnarly 90s? Nifty 90s?

    natural 90s
    nutty 90s
    negative 90s
    nuclear 90s
    naughty 90s
    nicktoon 90s

but after all these i still pick xtreme 90s, i don't care if the first word doesn't sound the same, like i said before in the 90s they tried to make stuff more "Xtreme" and make stuff more over the top, stuff like cartoons, toys, sports, tv ads, and lots of other stuff, that's why i still say that fits best.

X-games, Xtreme sports. Doritos with xtreme chedder. The fact that everyone was saying it.

What was Nasty about the 90s? Gnarly is an 80s expression and Nifty is a 50s expression plus it's already used for the Nifty 50s.

The Generation X movement in the 90's is the why I called it Xtreme 90's. Before Nirvana was famous, it was very rare to see anti-heros in tvs, films, etc...Since then, there are no good or bad guys in any entertaining format, just shades of grey.

90's cynicalism was kind of fad. 00's cynicalism was due to our President being a complete moron.
