I rememeber when Disney wasn't on cable, but every now and then, there would be weekends where Disney would be available and they would advertise subscribing to the channel. When those preview weekends came on, I was so excited. They had some great movies and TV shows. When Disney finally came to normal cable, all of the shows that I has watched in the past were gone. And now all they show are reruns from other channels and the same movies over and over. I am very dissapointed with it. Anyone have any feelings about this?

I felt the same way when Family Channel became basic in 1997. It was okay, but it was missing that special touch.

I ,too, was one of those kids who had to wait patiently until Disney had the free weekends and I could watch Kids Inc. and the Mickey Mouse Club. Now that Disney is on basic cable, I still enjoy some of the shows (Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, and sometimes Even Stevens). I just don't like Disney's policy about 65 episodes and then boom the series is done. I am very excited about the new show that will feature the little sister of Miranda Sanchez (from Lizzie McGuire). I also enjoy the Disney made movies. I am especially looking forward to the one called High School Muscial. I am not sure when it debuts (it might be this month).

Have you noticed that whenever anybody mentions the "old" Disney Channel, They almost always bitch about how godawful Disney Channel is today? CAUSE IT IS.

It is awful. I loved watching the specials they had about the theme parks and actual Mickey and the crew cartoons.

Wheather Lizzie McGuire is loved or hated by fans,
I do get bored of watching it, and I so wish
Kids Inc. would pop up one day out of
    the blue to replace Lizzie!!!

I miss that Winnie The Pooh show with live action
costumed people, and elderly gent in the beginning...!!!

Its completely ridiculous what's happened to the former Disney Channel. I call it former because other than House of Mouse, theres hardly anything Disney on here. Disney has completely lost it's sense of history, and is doing nothing but trying to change with society. You know Disney Channel aint Disney Channel when teens are racing home to watch those stupid teenage sitcoms. I've had to sit through some of that crap, and it aint for kids. It's for young teens. You couldnt say that Disney Channel 10 years ago. Disney Channel no longer focuses on cartoons, which is odd. I mean, the Disney Afternoon was one of the greatest lineup of cartoons ever. And these past few years it's been as if these cartoons never existed. I cant believe Dumbo's Circus, Welcome to Pooh Corner, or Adventures in Wonderland arent on this network anymore even though those are true to the Disney name. I end this rant by saying "What the hell are they thinking over there at Disney??!!"
    WHAT?

    Amen.

Classic Disney had science programs before the Discovery Channel existed, award-winning drama series like Anne of Green Gables, history specials and black and white films featuring Bogart and the rest well before Turner Classic Movies.

Now its complete slop, with everything slanted towards kids and young teenagers, but without much redeemable education mixed with the entertainment.

I missed the good ol' Disney Channel. Keep in mind, there are several promos and bumpers are on Retrojunk. In addition to that, I missed "Vault Disney" so much. Thanks to DVD's.

The Disney Channel is one of many channels that have went downhill over the years. Another such example of this is Nickelodeon. Years ago when we had 12 channels on cable, one was a Nickelodeon that had such a wonderful variety of shows. If I remember correctly, our cable didn't have it on 24hrs a day. It was only on for a portion of the day. Still, the variety of shows was immense. Whether it was watching Mr. Wizard or YCDTOT, everything seemed to be planned with variety in mind. I even remember watching a Chaka Khan video 20yrs ago. Today it is the same ole same ole!

You're all right Disney Channel has gone down the tubes. And it sucks.
Disney ROCKED in the 80's. Now it's LAME some of it is ok but not as good as it was.
It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runawa

Wow..thanks for all the comments. I am glad there are so many that agree with me. When it came onto basic cable, it was ok...still not as good as the preview weekends. I was a little girl when I watched the disney preview weekends and my favorite shows were alice in wonderland, my little pony, and carebears. Im sure there were others as well. Also, the movies were fantastic. I can go back now to my VHS s and I always find those movies that were taped during those weekends and periodically a little footer would come on the screen to tell how one could subscribe. I wish there was a channel with some quality tv like it used to be. Boomerang is actually the channel with the most decent cartoons such as looney toons, jetsons, smurfs, snorks, and flintstones. I really do miss the old disney though.

The Disney channel now just plain sucks! They just show the same stuff over and over again. Even toon Disney barely has any actual Disney toons on it. I mean they should create a classic Disney channel and show some of the old Disney shows, movies and toons from the 30's,40's and 50's. I guess the corporate bigwhigs think they are dated for the younger generation...but i watched these in the 80's when i was a kid and they were like 30-40yrs old then and i still enjoyed them.
