Chuck Jones is one of the best in the business. But the 1943 Merrie Melodies cartoon "Inki and the Minah Bird" was going nowhere - until that freaky bird appeared.

From my days in elementary school to the internet today, I'm still meeting people fascinated by that strange little black bird. In my opinion Inki is nothing special and I find the lion a bit overdone. It's only that little bird that saves this cartoon, the rest is filler between the bird's scenes.

For a generation of toon fans, that strange bird walked onto our TV's and into our imaginations forever.

I seem to remember a mountain shaking and cracking open and out of the crack hops that little bird
