Thread: Why do people still love Family Guy?

I'm serious. Why is the show still loved by people everywhere? It has gone WAY downhill since it's cancellation, and when it gets brought back, well... I mean, look at it! There's SO much wrong with it these days. Actually, for years. Allow me to demonstrate.

    1. The Dialogue - In the old days, the dialogue was a lot more clever and the pop culture references weren't as overdone. Not so much these days! Seth's living in da '80s, and it shows. Aside from one or two lines from an episode, the cleverness has pretty much disappeared. Why does he feel the need to make jokes regarding real life situations like the awkward meeting of an exgirlfriend or moving a damn couch? Just so people can go "OMG lol that's SO like that in real life!"

    2. The Animation - Oh God, don't get me started on this. I'm always bitching about the animation when discussing new FG, and only half the people agree with me. Holy hell, the animation is no better than numerous movies made in Flash. All they do is stand there talking with the same, recycled arm movements. "But wait!" you ask, "What about the moments when they use Futurama-style visuals for vehicles?" Apparently, because of that, they literally cut their budget (as heard in Lethal Weapons)

    3. Crudeness - The show tries WAAAAAAY too hard to be edgy and in your face. We've got random violence (exploding heads), celebrity bashing for no reason, and basically trying to be gross. It's hard to believe how much the show has evolved since 1999, when it at least had it's touching moments. But no! They have to make EVERYTHING into a joke! Especially the butt of jokes, Meg... why oh why do they make her look so bad? Just because she's the least popular character in the show doesn't mean that they have to shove it into our faces. In recent times, though, other characters in the family have been tortured like Meg, but they still go out of their way to make her like she's worse than she should be.

    4. Seth - Seth MacFarlane likes to use Brian for left wing propaganda, that is to deliver his opinions through the show. Hey, if Matt Stone & Trey Parker could do it, why not Seth!? Whether it's politics, religions, or the law, Brian is there to spout his beliefs, because that's what Seth believes in, and anybody who doesn't can go jump off a cliff.

5 References - As mentioned earlier, Seth just loves making references to pop culture and other things (we'll get to this later.) You can tell one misses a decade (or maybe surfing through RetroJunk) when he puts in things from his past into the show. That's all fine and dandy, but he overdoes it. As for the "other things", there are two things Seth loves making a reference to among other things... Star Wars and 9/11. Seth has to be one of the biggest Star Wars phanboys I have EVER seen, and I'm friends with Mezase Master. Last season, EVERY episode had to have at least one Star Wars reference. Hell, he even retold Star Wars using FG characters. We were hoping that it would cease all future Star Wars references and allusions, and it did for the most part. Sadly, he'll be doing the other movies, too. Expect more couch moving soon!

As for 9/11, Seth is laughing in the face of the Grim Reaper (voiced by neither Norm MacDonald or Adam Carolla, mind you.) According to an article, Seth MacFarlane was supposed to be on one of the hijacked planes, but one of his assistants or something pushed him back, causing him to miss the flight. This means that in the future, if he decides to do Family Guy again, he will make jokes about it. I can't say I blame him, though. He dodged a silver bullet there. He should really stop bragging about it, though, because he doesn't know when Death is going to return to stalk him. Well, not to say that I want him dead or anything, he should just cool it.

Anyway, do you agree? Disagree? Discuss.

"Oh my god, Peter/Lois/Brian, you're right!"

I just summarized every episode since the show's revival.

Eh, it's just a way to pass the time for me

I personally liked the indigestion and diarrea scene and the over scene in the episode Peter's daughter.

As well as the prom night dumpster baby..

Those bee scenes in the episode where lois is the mayor got a chuckle too.

Oh. My. God. Do NOT get me started on Prom Night Dumpster Baby. That was one of the worst cutaways EVER! It was pointless, tasteless, and just a way to fill up the time.

That reminds me... Seth's Cavalcade of Crappy Cartoon Comedy is highly overrated. People favorite it just because Seth MacFarlane made it, and there's nothing funny about it. I'm glad Seth decided to create a side project to crap out scenes he comes up with at the dinnertable that doesn't belong in Family Guy, but it is overall a complete and utter misfire.

There are more cutaways than ever before. I find nothing wrong when they make celebrity jokes or the part where they move the couch. I mean the real-life references are what I think are the funniest because they're so true, and no one ever does that (i think).

I also hate how Brian is constantly being corrected by the other characters. "You know what? You're right. All this time (blank)"

Anyway the cutaways again, they're becoming less consistent with what the characters say sometimes.

And lately episodes are also like "OH BOY IM A MILLIONAIRE NOW" then at the end "Awww, everything's back to normal". Just like the Simpsons etc...

I can say more...but the show still entertains me. I even love how they "FG-ize" something. Like the Jerry and Gene Kelly scene from that movie, Stewie's Youtube video featuring the song "Everything I do" and the Sesame Street Pinball animated short...

Yeah, some of the shorts aren't very funny. But some still manage to make me laugh. They're apparently throwaway-cutaways and aren't related to the show at all.

I'll be honest Xe-A-Thoul, I stopped watching Family Guy when I couldn't take seeing Peter nude anymore. Enough already!

Awesome commentary on the show. If I teleport you over to Seth's office would you accidently strangle him? You'll get an Emmy!

The Simpsons? That show hasn't even been remotely funny in years. The last season of The Simpsons that I enjoyed was Season 12 (which is being released on DVD soon). There's only been a few Season 13 episodes that I enjoyed (such as Angry Dad). After that, I think the show has gone way downhill.

At least Family Guy still makes me laugh hard. The Simpsons episodes today hasn't made me laugh that much.

Eh, I really can't watch the newer episodes anymore. The first three seasons and some of the early seasons when it came back I can still tolerate, but recently it's just been getting worse and worse. Seth's not even trying anymore. I mean like, a good 5/10 minutes of the episode can be taken up by some long-winded, irrelevant, unfunny monologue by someone or by an (again) unrelated flashback. I mean the chicken fights in the earlier seasons lasted a couple minutes, but they have MULTIPLE superlong pointless shit going on.

It just got way too big with its comeback, got lucky with having a few catchphrases that everyone has to repeat 8901941859803 over (Bird is the Word), and its showing by its decline in even any kind of decency. Hell at least the Simpsons can manage to focus on the story their trying to tell without having to have endless pointless timekillers every 3 minutes.

Im glad someone wasnt smart enough to see this, but makes things worse hes like 17 most subscribed on youtube.

after that bugs bunny thing I would gladly pay a hitman to take him out. infact he should be sued for use of all of the characters he puts in episodes, Viacom and Warner Bros will take down Youtube videos of old toons they wont air, but will let him disrespect these toons using their name???

FG has done worse. I believe the worst episode was during the Writer's Strike Era ending with that episode where Brian has a son.
