Some of my 1999 memories: -I was in tenth grade (15 y/o) -heavily into anime (Pokemon, especially) -at the peak of my social awkwardness -I saw Freaks and Geeks for the first time on TV -moved to Damascus, MD with my mom's potential 2nd husband -meeting my friend Josh -purchasing Super Smash Bros. and Mystical Ninja for N64 -I started reading Playboy on a regular basis
In 1999, I was 6 years old. A lot happened that year. Digimon, Spongebob Squarepants, Courage The Cowardly Dog, and Ed, Edd, n Eddy all premiered that year, and were some of my favorite shows at the time. I also started to watch The Simpsons more often that year. I also remember watching Celebrity Deathmatch a lot with my dad that year.
I remember being REALLY excited to see Pokemon: The First Movie and Toy Story 2 at the theater. I loved Pokemon: The First Movie, but was somewhat disappointed by Toy Story 2, mainly because I wanted the mutant toys to return and I wanted Buzz and Woody to be together in more scenes. I also wanted to see The Phantom Menace, but for some reason, my parents never got around to taking me to see it in theaters. I do remember all the merchandise, though, including a toy light saber I had.
It was also the year I got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas. The first games I got were Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing and Pokemon Snap.
1999 was also the year my school changed to a different building. I have a lot of other memories from 1999, but those are the main ones.
1999...has it really been ten years? I was 20 in that year, had walked out of college a couple of weeks before my graduation - was tired of being surrounded by idiots, had gotten interested in Pokemon, being disabled meant I wasn't, and still not, allowed to work since I was considered a danger in the work place due to it.
It was still two years before I would meet my abusive, selfish, two faced ex and I was stuck living with my parents because it was felt that because of my disability, that it was too risky to have me living on my own - finally got to move out in 2003 and I'm still stuck in the same flat I've been in since then since all the better places go to those who take drugs and drink their lives away.
And in general life was boring and I was depressed a lot. Eh, s**t happens.
- I was a freshman/sophomore in high school. - I started my punk rock phase, so I rocked the spiked/colored hair and had a backpack covered in Bad Religion and Millencolin patches. - The Y2K scare was in full force. My father responded by stockpiling trail rations, MREs, and bottled water. This would be followed by covering every window in the house with plastic and duct tape, following 9/11. - I first discovered Libertarianism after hearing an interview Michael Badnarik on Man Cow's Morning Madhouse. - Anime was pretty big, but I tended to ignore it. - On a not-so-bright note, it was the year I started smoking. - And finally, I was spending an obscene amount of time playing Genghis Khan II on the Genesis.
I was still in the 6th grade down to 5 months left before the end of the school year (I guess 5 months. January to May). But anyway... the last day was a good day for me and my brother. Our grandpa picks us up, takes us out to lunch (it was an early dismissal), and takes us to K-Mart where we purchase a copy of Super Smash Bros. on the N64. Also in 1999 my mom drags me to see The Phantom Menace and my brother purchases a copy of "Weird Al" Yankovic's Running With Scissors on cassette. Then August comes and I enter the 7th grade and here comes December. I'm welcoming 2000 while others are freaking out over Y2K. Crazy times.
I was a freshman/sophomore in high school. I was obsessed with the No Doubt song "new". I was also obsessed with Pokemon especially pickahu. I was mad a my friend for dumping all her friends for a guy. I took an art class.
I was a freshmen in high school. My flunky teenage cousin was an innocent three year old. Playing PS one and N64 rocked. I collected Nintendo power which I still have.
I was in college at the time and worked at an Auto Body shop. I had been meaning to check out The Sopranos since I'd heard so much about it from my friends and coworkers. My favorite Wrestling fed at the time was ECW but WWE and WCW were still good since it was in the midst of The Attitude Era which included DX, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The nWo.
I also remember the big hoopla over Y2K and everyone panicking just like with the whole 2012 mayan Deathcurse crap. Still spinnin' baby Still Spinnin'.
I was an 18 year old Mom watching all my friends worry about prom and what hairstyle they were gonna get next while I was trying to stay awake long enough to study. My boyfriend (now husband)was a lot better than most teenage dads (and some adult dads) but I still carried most of the load... I was listening to N'Sync, Jay-Z, and mostly everything they played on TRL and Rap City (R.I.P. to both shows). I was also completely obsessed with "Dawson's Creek".
