i dont remember too much from that year but i was in 3rd grade
    I was in 3rd grade in 1989. =P

    I was in 3rd grade in 1983

Don't feel too bad, Killjoy... so was I.

    1999 was a middle-year. I loved 1998 & 2000, but 1999 had a few things that made it the summer-from-hell. I only remember a couple of highlights

It was the year, however, that I finally got my first full-time job.

I think it was also the year that I finally graduated college with a Bachlor's, and I started one semester of Graduate school (that didn't last long... failed like 2 courses and gave up since it was going to become too expensive to continue for a Masters).

Sad thing is how it really doesn't feel all that long ago. 1999 vs. 1989 felt a lot longer ago than 1999 vs 2009.

    In 1999...

    - I reached my teenage years.
    - My favorite bands were The Offspring, No Doubt, and Green Day.
    - My favorite TV show was Daria.
    - I stopped wearing overalls (thank god).
    - My friend invited me to KIIS FM's Wango Tango concert, where Britney Spears and Ricky Martin headlined.
    - I went to my first "real" concert (Silverchair).
    - AOL was still the coolest thing...ever.
    - I wore clunky Vans shoes and tube socks at all times.
    - The hottest boys had spiked hair.
    - Our school's "state-of-the-art" computer lab consisted of a fleet of machines circa 1985. You know...black and green screen, no mouse, large floppy disks that were actually floppy, pre-GUI operating system, etc.

    Getting HEAVILY into Pokemon
Working on Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Getting into Digimon and Monster Rancher
Seeing Sega's final console, the Dreamcast, get released

i don't know man , i kinda have to disagree with you, the difference between 1999 and 2009 is like the difference between 1989 and 1999. lol it was kind of a long time ago.

I know there's a difference obivously but what I'm saying is that it was nothing retro about it even before it was 2009 I never fondly looked back it and was like "Yeah 1999 was so cool and a long time ago..." I mostly looked back at anything before 97. Hell 1998 wasn't that long ago. Really anything before 96 is retro to me.

1999. Ten years ago? Wow. Seems like yesterday. I met and started dating and married my wife, then a year later my first daughter was born. Now there are people posting on a "retro" site about that year. I feel OLD. I thought the 80's and early 90's were retro. But now 1999 is retro. I'm ancient.

Spongebob Squarepants premiered on Nickelodeon. Boy, that was a show that I loved throughout the years, and hard to believe they're still making it.

Well, consider that Rugrats is still Nickelodeon's longest running cartoon series (IIRC it ended in either 2003 or 2004, and started in 1991.) Then again, I don't think spongebob had a four year no-new-episodes slump either.

Because people still want annoying yellow sponges, it just may surpass Rugrats as the longest running nicktoon.

    Hey man!Don't be dissing Spongebob!

I was getting ready for college the following year.

Y2K aka Millenium Bug was all I ever heard on the news as well as tele-evangilists making a big out of it like it was the end of the world but knew it was bullshit coz I once set my computer to the last day of that year and guess what....... NOTHING! My PC was still fine.

Notorious B.I.G's Born Again album was released and found it OK though not as good as Life After Death but it was still good. I first knew Eminem here before knowing about his debut album.

Had a choice to watch either Phantom Menace or The Matrix and guess which one I chose (of course I wanted to know what all the hype about 'What Is The Matrix?' was all about) and I never regretted my decision.

Speaking of the Y2K bug, despite all these rumors (2012, LHC, and now this nuclear threat), I pray that nothing bad will happen in 2012 or 2013.

Back on topic. I remember 1999. I remember seeing a lot of movies then.

'99.... we still had Will Smith "Rapping" lol. The late 90's take me back to Jr. High, and bitching about cafeteria food, and watching lots of WB shows, like Popular. I was really in to all the artsy girl singer-songwriters that year, like Jewel and Sarah Mclachlan pair that with a love of Sailor Moon and frequent poetry writing.. and you get a nerd
*That's it! I'm so gonna be like Angela Bower...except with better clothes.*
