We are in 2009 now, so tell me:

Where were you in 1999, which was 10 years ago?

Here are the events I encountered back then:

I started boarding school, therefore, life as I knew it was over. I have been miserable ever since.
I opened up to the all new Dreamcast and Neo Geo Pocket consoles as the year drew to a close
My brother and I embraced Pokémon!
We got Digital Television for the first time, by initiating our subscription to Sky's Digital Sattelite TV service (which launched at a rather late point the year before)
We went on vacation to the USA for the first time
A Bug's Life and Tarzan were the only 2 films I saw at the cinema!

Why do so many British parents put their kids in boarding schools? It's just not a year either, but several? Are you British?

Anyway I was still working at Taco Bell as a manager and experiancing a lot of drama in my life. Overall 1999 really sucked for me, but 2000 was better.

Hmm, this May, The Phantom Menace will be ten years old... feels like more than ten years since people started complaining about Jar Jar.

Watching the first Spongebob episode getting repeated like there's no tomorrow (which, might I add, about tore it for me), as well as watching the (superiorly awesome) Rocket Power
    Getting HEAVILY into Pokemon
Working on Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Getting into Digimon and Monster Rancher
Seeing Sega's final console, the Dreamcast, get released

I was a senior in high school. I definitely was playing Ocarina of Time, which I'd gotten for Christmas 1998. I was probably also preparing for midterms at that time.

I was entering 11th grade, getting ready to leave Boy Scouts, becoming ever-more enraptured with the popular culture of the 80s, looking forward to turning 17 and enjoying the Attitude Era of what was then known as the WWF.

Now, I'm working, I'm long out of Boy Scouts, I'm still an 80s fan, I'm turning 27 this year and I very rarely watch wrestling anymore. It just isn't the same since the WWF was forced into becoming WWE.

Lucas doesn't have much involvement in the Clone Wars series, if any.

/wore the Dreamcast t-shirt to school the next day, and got all the ladies

Ah... yes. That was when I turned 9 years old. Let's see what I remember from that year.

I got a Nintendo 64 along with Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I got a Game Boy Color along with Pokemon Blue.

I saw Star Wars Episode 1 in the movie theature, and after that, I didn't go to any movie theature until 2004.

I watched Elmo's World that year (around the time when Sesame Street added that segment on the show)

I started making some new friends. I never had much of a social life throughout the 90s.

Spongebob Squarepants premiered on Nickelodeon. Boy, that was a show that I loved throughout the years, and hard to believe they're still making it. I recently saw an early promo of it on youtube, and I'd post a link here but it's unfortunatly removed from youtube.

Well, consider that Rugrats is still Nickelodeon's longest running cartoon series (IIRC it ended in either 2003 or 2004, and started in 1991.) Then again, I don't think spongebob had a four year no-new-episodes slump either.

Because people still want annoying yellow sponges, it just may surpass Rugrats as the longest running nicktoon.

Actually, Spongebob was originally going to end after season 3. They stopped production during 2002 and they were slowly premiring all the episodes from season 3 in the US while other countries already aired all season 3 episodes in 2002 while the US slowly premiered them up until 2004. After the Spongebob Squarepants movie was released, then they resumed production of the show with a new season in 2005.

That said, I don't think it will last for another 10 years, definatly not as long as The Simpsons is going on.
