At an event in Japan to play up the March 28th, 5,980 yen ($64.73 -- yeah, they're going to charge that much for it over there) release of Dragon Quest IX for DS, Square Enix just announced Dragon Quest X is coming to the Wii. Considered the most important game franchise in Japan, this Dragon Quest announcement is a huge win for Nintendo and its Wii console.

Unfortunately, few other details are known about the RPG yet, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata (shown above with Square Enix president Yoichi Wada and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii) was on hand and rightfully thrilled.

Interestingly, the new issue of EGM magazine has a rumor that Dragon Quest IX will also be appearing on the Wii, similar to how Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time will be playable on both the Nintendo DS and Wii. Whether this pans out or not, it's clear Square Enix is moving more of its development resources over to the Wii.

Sony can officially forget about Japan this gen, this was the only announcement Nintendo needed to seal the deal there. Hopefully this will lead to some more Japanese third parties jumping on board with RPGs and other stuff as well. So far Capcom has been the only Japanese third party to give Nintendo some AAA games.

It is kind of nice to see the DQ series back in the Nintendo fold.

Dragon Quest X is going to be bigger and badder than Final Fantasy X, I can guarantee you right there.

No surprise there. This mark without a shadow of a doubt the end of Sony's dominance.

Hah, two games, and Enix is already crawling back to Nintendo. Maybe the Square portion can take a hint.

You Wii owners better thank whatever deity you believe in that your system is going to be graced with a Dragon Quest game. The sword of Erdrick shall shine again!

Wow, this is definitley a huge win for Nintendo...and yet another blow for the Playstation 3. First, Final Fantasy XIII goes multi-platform, now Dragon Quest X is going to be a Wii exclusive. Sony used to have control over all the big name RPGs...but that has officially changed.

The Square part of SE has made a lot of stuff for the DS, in fact most of their best efforts recently have been on that system, so I'd say they've been back with Nintendo for a while now.

I'm talking about mainstream Final Fantasy games though, not Crystal Chronicles, Tactics, or those kiddy Chocobo games.

Ok, my mistake. I can see where you're coming from but for me it's actually reached the point where I was looking more forward to Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers than anyother FF game after they showed it off at E3 2006. But there's been no news on that game since. I think the mainstream FF games have been pretty weak for a while now. I loved the NES and SNES games, and was a big fan of IX on the PSone, but I didn't care for VII, VIII, X, X-2 or XII at all.

Yeah, same here, I hated everything after VI. I just think Square should go back to making the games like they used to, and a good start would be going back to Nintendo. You know those 3D remakes of the older games? Just make a brand new game like that, in the old medeival Final Fantasy style instead of all the weird crap they have in current games, and they'd get a lot more respect.

That'd be awesome but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Square seems to like to push systems to hardware's limits and the best graphics they can get this gen are on the 360 and PS3. I will be interested to see what happens though if FF XIII doesn't sell as well as DQ X.

I can't wait for DQX, but what about DQIX? Thats what i'm waiting for! Well, I got bored with IV, basically because this dude that rides my bus never played a handheld game before and begged me every day to play IV, so it pretty much became "his" game, but oh well, IX and X will be alot better. Also, I thought Dragon Quest Swords was VERY dissapointing. Just a hack and slash game, thats it. Now soon, were getting the better stuff!

You should have punched him in the throat, because Dragon Warrior/Quest IV is one of the greatest RPGs, ever.

Ya want to know whats worse? I told him he should get a DS for Christmas and he said "Do you think you could buy me one?" Dude, get your own!

Anyways, i'm actually playing IV now and it's awesome, but i'm still at the very beginning. I think the battle system and graphics are awesome. The only thing I hate is how people mistake it for Pokemon, like my older brother. And still, as of now, kids still prefer movie games over awesome games like DQIV.

Me: Hey kid, I see you have a DS, have you played DQIV yet?
Kid: What? Dairy Queen IV? Hm, never heard of it.

    Haha, I made a funny!
