I think I might be getting a Super Nintendo for Christmas this year. I used to have one in the late '90s, but my mom gave it away about 7 or 8 years ago.

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what games I should get for it. I already want any of the Mario games, Donkey Kong Country, and that Tiny Tunes Adventures game.

If you're a sports fan, I would definitely suggest picking up Tecmo Super Bowl.

Turtles in Time, Donkey Kong Country 2, and any Street Fighter game although I've heard that Super SFII is the best.

Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country is a good start. Other games that I like on the SNES would include Kirby Super Star, Earthbound, TMNT4: Turtles in Time, Disney's Goof Troop, and F-zero.

If you want the best Mario game on the SNES, then I would go with Super Mario RPG.

He said that he would get anything mario.

That being said, try zelda: a link to the past, metal combat (if you can find a super scope), secret of mana, megaman X and X3, and illusion of Gaia.

If you like RPGs, my personal favorite for the SNES is Breath of Fire II. The translation's shaky, but it's still better than Final Fantasy II's. It's a damn fun game, with a respectable cast of characters and a surprisingly deep story. That said, it IS a direct sequel to the original Breath of Fire, so I recommend playing that first for continuity's sake.

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom and Lufia II are also worth picking up. They have the best translation that I've ever seen for an RPG of that era. The characters are solid, and you'll definately grow attached to them. Other than that, they're typical old-style RPGs.

I've never played Earthbound, but some people on here swear by it. Pick it up, but you'll probably have to get it from eBay as it's kind of rare. And very expensive.

Aside from RPGs, check out: Mega Man X-X3, Super Castlevania IV/Dracula X, ActRaiser, Earthworm Jim/Earthworm Jim 2, the Super Star Wars trilogy, EVO: Search For Eden, YS III, and the Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike games.

You should check out my article I did last year on my 25 favorite SNES games -

    http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/1528/

That is just my personal opinion on what are my 25 favorites, there's lots of other really good games too that didn't quite make it on my list like Earthbound, Star Fox, Final Fantasy II, Actraiser, Super R-Type, etc.

^ Killer list you have there. Included it's fair share of common and uncommon games. You have my support.

Great list indeed, Retromaniac, though I disagree with a couple things. It's also amusing how ZeroMage managed to plug one of his OldWizard lists in your comment section.

Yeah, and DalmatianLover. "What's so great about Zombies Ate My Neighbors? I've never seen or heard of it."

Well, maybe if you played more than just Mario, Sonic, licensed platformers, etc., you would have. Not hearing about games like Lufia, I'd understand, but Zombies Ate My Neighbors? Even my freaking exgirlfriend has heard of it, and all she plays is Sonic, Zelda, and Guitar Hero. That, that's just... why, DalmatianLover, why?

Did the AVGN review Zombies...? If not, it's no wonder he's never heard of it.
