I bet that this 30 year anniversary will suck. They probably will play everything from the late 90s on up. They should play some of their 80s stuff because most of the users on here need to see what Nickelodeon was like before the 90s.

Probably the reason they don't show most of the 80s nickelodeon shows is because most of them were syndicated and they don't hold the rights to these shows anymore, so why do you people think it's going to be bad, Nickelodeon's 25th anniversery wasn't bad, the only thing I'm worried about is Spongebob, he's celebrating his 10th anniversery and that's all what nickelodeon cares about, let's just hope for the best.

It doesn't matter if these shows are syndicated or not! When Nick was a fledgling company in the 80's their older shows were all bought from mostly foreign or Canadian markets and they owned the rights to them. so if Nick could shell out the money then...and now that they are multi-billion dollar Viacom owned, you're telling me they can't afford the rights to air 2 episodes of a Canadian show that has not been aired in decades??? It's not like these shows are being aired anywhere else in the world.

Nick just doesn't care about it's history. They just wanna show stuff that the little kids today will remember or relate to. I guess they think that kids are too dumb to look at an episode of Pinwheel, Today's Special or Belle & Sebastian and understand it.

Even with the Disney Channel. They don't even show their classic cartoons anymore. But it's funny...they showed these old cartoons when I was a kid in the 80's which were made in the 30's and 40's..decades before I was born...and even being culturally outdated, they were still funny and interesting.

I think it's going to be great, just like the 20th and 25th Anniversaries. Let's just hope that they don't play Spongebob all day long.

I have hopes that it will be great but by now I'm not expecting anything spectacular. In fact, I'll be surprised if they show anything per 2000's at all.
Recipe for nostalgia: Mix 80's and 90's culture. Stir in some good memories. Add a dash of reflection. Mixture should now taste bittersweet. Shake well and enjoy!

Nickelodeon doesn't have the rights to most of the old shows that they used to show back then, hence why I doubt most would get shown. Look at You Can't Do That On Television. Nick, to my knowledge, only has the rights to about two or three eps...the ones with Alanis Morisette (sp?).

Still, couldn't they show stuff like "Welcome Freshmen," "Nick Arcade," "Wild & Crazy Kids," "Weinerville," "Rocko's Modern Life," and other shows from the '90s?

I agree with you about the Disney Channel all the way. They used to have variety and played a lot of old Disney cartoons, movies, shows and even non Disney movies and shows. Of course, after 1995 or so, they moved all of the actual Disney stuff to Vault Disney and started shoving teenage shows down our throat. Vault Disney was on like at 2 AM where I live.

Ever since this Zoog Disney junk, Disney Channel has been going down the tubes.

I'm hoping for the best on what Nickelodeon is gonna do for their 30th anniversery. If they play some of their classic shows, then I'll have my DVD recorder ready.

Okay I agree, When Zoog disney came out I was like what 7/8 going WTF?! They got rid of all their cartoons and put random mess like the famous jett jackson, the jersey, and so on.
So,what makes me laugh is people in my age group are bitching moaning about how disney sux now and yet to me disney haven't been good in YEARS before 00s and the only time I every cared to watch it was for Lizzie McGuire, a few NoN-disney movies, and Classic Disney (with the mickey mouse club very old one and zorro) other than that I watched Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Not to rant but, to me, Nickelodeon hasn't been good since 98/99 ( and even then they didn't have good shows)and just got worst in 03.

Well today's that day, Nickelodeon is officially 30 years old today. I've been watching Nickelodeon for at least 15 years, so thank you Nickelodeon for giving me a wonderful childhood, even though you're not as good like you used to be.

On another tack, this month also celebrates the 15th anniversary of the debut of Turner Classic Movies. I enjoy watching that channel...Lots of great old movies, and for those of you who wonder what happened to the old Looney Tunes cartoons, TCM sometimes runs them as interstitals during their One Reel Wonders.
