The Air Force wanted me pretty badly. If I had it to do over again, I'd have enlisted with them. It's not like college has opened any new doors for me, or anything.

Sounds like at this point the damage is done and what you need to do is just look ahead...

A: You don't want to talk to this guy for a variety of reasons, namely - in case he's not a recruiter but the rapist shown in previous post

2: If you end up answering the phone and he's on the other end, you've just got to shut off the part of you that was raised to be polite and say stop calling here and hang up the phone - probably not a good idea to give him any a chance to talk, since he is so manipulative.

#: If that does nothing, tell your mother that there is some creep out their who wants to touch your wee-wee and he says he's a marine.

44/11: If after dealing with her, he continues to call, making it really seem sketchy, call the cops

E: Damn the man. Even if he is a recruiter, those guys are sharks.

    6. Go out and rent the 1967 Film Casino Royale, that will make everything seem better

Weird shit like this happens... As you get older you figure people out and can deal with them appropriately.

Or next time he calls, have the mom answer the phone and say that he died. That sounds easier.

If he's a Marine telemarketer type, chances are he's a pushy asshole. You are under no obligation to talk to people who solicit services from you, and by all means, hang u if you are uninterested. If they keep bothering you, answer all their questions in ways that will make you ineligible for recruitment.

"I am an American citizen, but I was born in Iraq while my mother was selling guns to the Taliban."

"No sir, I have never done any illegal drugs. I stick strictly to Vicodin, Xanax, and other prescription drugs."

And make sure to mumble something about Venusian invaders and voices in your head. They'll leave you alone.

I take it you must be a senior in high school, cause that's when the recruiters start calling you a bunch. This guy is only the first, and certainly won't be the last. I got calls from them all the time during my senior year (marines, air force, army, navy, national guard). I even got countless video tapes from them in the mail box...at least 1 or 2 tapes a month for about a year. It's annoying, but at least be thankful we don't have the draft anymore.

If you are not interested in military service, You must say that clearly and repeatedly.

Yeah, I'm a senior in high school, and my brother told me he went through the same thing. We've gotten tons of calls already, this is just the first time we answered.

The problem was that, like killface and Cambion said, he was a manipulative, pushy asshole. It's not that he was really nice or anything, but it basically sounded like he was trying to emasculate me from his persistence after I said I never considered joining the military before. Thanks for all the help and stuff, but I don't think this will be a problem anymore. He's supposed to call again tonight, but we don't intend on answering, and in the future I'll make sure my mom hangs up (I never answer wireless calls anyway). If he gets to my answering machine, I'll be sure to delete the message, because as annoying as the guy is, I gotta say he can really get to me.

That Marines guy called me too...it sucked
He talked to me for 30 minutes and asked when I was available.
I just mumbled something and gave him my "cell phone" number.
Buffalo has an 867 area code so I told him it was 867-5309.
    He didn't get the joke.

If its not important, or anyone I know, then there is no point in me answering personal questions and such. I will eiter be an ass or just hang up.

I was reading this earlier, but was too busy to respond.

As someone who does sales for a living I know this tactic. I don't do telemarketing and never will. I had a guy from the cable company call me and I told him I was not interested. The next day another guy called and kept calling when I didn't pick up and of course never left a message. See I have cable internet, but use satellite TV. He wanted to upgrade me to basic cable for like a $1 a month for 6 months. Of course the price would have went up after that. I told him I would never use it because I have an antenna if the satellite goes out. He did the same tactics as this guy did to you Mezase. After he gave his pitch and ignored what I was telling him he said "so how would Friday work for installation" I told him that was it and to never call me again, then hung up.

I use to fall for their sales methods because I don't like to be a dick, but I learned you have to tell them your not interested at the start of the call and to please take you off their list. If they call again thats when I start being a dick. The same with pan handlers at gas stations and such.

Reading others post I think you know what to do next time regardless if your mom gives you the phone or not. You have to relize he was just going down a list and would have forgotten if you were rude 5 minutes later. I take incomming call and get rude people all the time. I just hang up of them or piss them off so they will hang up on me. I never let a caller bother me.

The phone rang a while ago, and the caller ID said "Wireless Caller," which we generally don't answer. However, my mom decided to have a blond moment and did, then handed it to me and said it was for me. When I got it, the guy asked how my day was and all this crap and I just answered him. He told me he was from the Marines and asked me what I wanted to do after High School, and I said I wanted to go into film editing, which he said was similar to some editing they do in the Marines (total BS). He then asked to set up a meeting with me tomorrow, and I told him I'd be working on a project for school and couldn't so that I'd call him back. After that, he asks me tons of personal questions (ranging from "Where were you born?" to "Have you ever done illegal drugs of any kind?"). I answered them all honestly, which takes about ten minutes, and he told me I was eligible to join. Then he asks if he can call me same time tomorrow, and I say okay and hang up.

This feels so unsettling, I was just telling this guy I never knew all this stuff about me, and wasn't prepared at all to say no. I'm usually so blunt, but this guy just had such a way of talking and I'm always bent on being polite (despite what an asshole I can be, my manners are a little too good), I just kept telling him about me even though I didn't want to. I know it seems babyish to get upset over this (and there will probably be a stupid mockery sooner or later), but it's just making me feel really insecure. Why are they allowed to do this?

I will tell you the exact reason, you see mezase this looser is probibly what 27 and trying to harass a 17 year old teenager to join the marines, its a very simple tactic man they use this scare tactic and all this crap to try and convince you. In other words if you dont join they will hound you and try to say your afraid of the marines and all that crap. They basically target young teenagers from low income familys and a broken homelife, no offense to you man but thats the way those low lifes operate. Its best just to ignore them and whatever you do stand your ground and dont give in to his sweet tempting words of kind wisdom and high hopes because one minite it could be all those magical promises then the next you could be in the middle of some desert in iraq.

Exactly anyone I have known that joined (I know allot that did) said that it was nothing what they were told it was going to be. For one thing they give you a test and that test decides what kind of job you will be doing after boot camp. Only a handful of people do the cool stuff the videos show and the rest get the shit jobs. Oh and boot camp is harder than you can possibly imagine. They do all kind of sadistic stuff to you and call it training. Its not as bad as the old days, but they still do stuff they are not suppose to do. There is lots of brainwashing.

Don't get me wrong I actually wish now that I would have joined simply because I wasted those four years anyway. I'm just saying what they tell people is BS.

    You know...

    I've been in a Recruiter's office...

    I've been in a Car dealer's office...

    Same God Damned Thing!

... I bought the car for too much ... on the other hand I dodged joining the military...

Now, as far as scare tactics, it's all in the delivery...

Yes, basic training for the Marines does suck. My BF was in training and, by the end of his twelve weeks, he had a nervous breakdown. Thankfully the physician could see that BF would likely snap on someone and made up some bullshit so he could be discharged...the military is not for everyone. And besides that, America is such a damn shithole that it is not worth defending most of the time. Tell that to one of those asshole Marines who calls you to hound you - it'll set them off right quick .

Not to mention that some guys who are military men became arrogant assholes who think they're just the masters of the world because they happen to be wearing uniforms that can be found on eBay and in thrift stores. Not all of them are, but I noticed that even when my BF returned from his training, he was very pretentious for about a month or two after coming home. Thankfully the brainwashing wore off and I got my boy back, but still...assholery abounds in the Marines. And we have enough conceited assholes in this country.

Hey, I'm good at being an asshole, and everyone here should know that. It was all in the timing and delivery, as has been said. If I ever answer another call like that, I'm sure a simple "leave me the fuck alone" would do the trick.

Also, gumbyman, just FYI, we're not a low income family at all... my dad basically works directly under "the man." I think they just go for everyone.
