How do your parents name you all?

For example, the inspiration for the given names for me and my older brother (b. 06/11/79), came from the Bible. Joseph in the Bible refers to the older brother of Benjamin. Paul (my brother's middle name), likewise, was chosen to reflect: 1) to blend with my paternal grandfather's initials (J. P.); 2) Paul McCartney, one of the singer/songwriters behind The Beatles, my mom's favorite band in the 1960s; and 3) the biblical St. Paul, who, as Saul of Tarsus, was blinded by the light of Jesus when He found out Paul was murdering the Christian populace.

Other times, children are named for older relatives in their family, whether it's as a given name or at least one of their middle names. Still other times, they are named for famous figures (such as two baseball players named Kenny Rogers and Milton Bradley, not to be confused with the respective country singer and board game designer - both players represent the Texas Rangers).

Some names for children were invented, such as the name Jermajesty (one of Jermaine Jackson's children; the name of his child is a portmanteau of his first name and the word "majesty"). Jermaine is the older brother of Michael Jackson.

What seems to be the trend for names of children these days? Invented names? Alternate or Americanized spellings of HTP (hard to pronounce) names? Rhyming names?

My mom always loved the name Christopher for a boy, so my brother got that. For my sister, she wanted to give her an Irish name since we're Irish, so her name is Erin. For me, one of my mom's favorite actresses is Lauren Bacall, so, I got pinned with Lauren. I like it.

All of our middle names are family names. Frederick is my brother's middle name, my father's middle name, and BOTH of my grandfather's first names. Elizabeth is my sister's middle name and my grandmother's sister's first name. My middle name is Kathleen, which is my grandmother's other sister's middle name (she died a few years before I was born).

I'm named after my father and grandfather. But they didn't want me to a 'the Third', so they gave me a middle name. For which I'm named after Uncle.

I was intended to be named Justin, 'til one of my mom's co-workers had a son also named Justin. So I was named Michael, and Justin became my middle name. Coincidentally, my best friend's name is Justin. Kinda funny.

I forgot how they got my first name, but my middle name apparently came from Life of Brian... only it's Bryan.

Interesting fact, my first name was going to be Thor because I was born on one of the worst storms my family's ever experienced... and when I was born, the storm stopped... and there were two white owls on the tree outside. We never see those around here.

Wait, so your mom changes your freaking name just because of one of her current coworkers?

Besides, I like Michael more. It's like Michael J. Fox... or my middle name.

My parents just liked the name Claire, so that's what they named me. Same thing with my little sister, Cecilia, or 'Ceci' as we call her...as for my younger brother Daniel, my mom really liked the song 'Daniel' by Elton John, so she named him after it.

    I'm naming my first kid
