I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so please bear with me if it's not quite in the right place.

Has anyone here ever used the program called GarageBand (for the Mac)? Or anything similar. I'm not really looking for a MIDI-generating software, but software that is capable of producing actual instrumental sounds (i.e. guitar, drum, synth, etc.).

I'm just looking for something free that I can make some simple tunes with using, perhaps, my laptop keyboard. Does anyone have any suggetions? I realize GarageBand is a pretty expensive program and finding anything close to it for free is highly unlikely, but something that can make more than MIDI sounds is basically what I'm looking for?

And no, I can't download GarageBand via torrent because I have a Windows computer.

Well, there's FL Studio, which is supposed to be really good.

Well...I'm looking for something that can do mash-up songs that sound great.

I made a few ameatur-ish mash-ups, but I'm hoping to do something professionally.

Download "Reason", its a program that lets you make professional music. seriously, get Utorrent or something and download it. Anythings free on the internet.

EDIT: I just read that you cant download torrents because you have a "windows computer", what does that mean?

I don't know, do you have a Windows Vista? If so then use Azureus. Utorrent sucks on Vista.

Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding. I can download torrents, but I cannot download GarageBand because it's a Mac-only program and wouldn't work on my system anyway.

Also, for some fucked-up reason, Comcast has blocked Azureus (they provide the internet connection for my dorm).

But thanks for all the info, everyone. I'll try some of the software that has been suggested.
