I bought this game today because it got me curious. For those who have not played or heard of it, Sonic Gems Collection is a collection of Game Gear, Sega CD, and Sega Saturn games with a Sonic theme. The ones I cam recall off the top of my head are...

    Sonic CD
    Sonic R
    Tails Adventure
    Tails' Sky Patrol
    Sonic Spinball
    Sonic Triple Trouble
    Sonic Drift 2
    Sonic 2
    Vectorman
    Vectorman 2
    Sonic the Fighters

And I'll say this much - "Sonic The Fighters" was worth the money. I have been whining about how there needss to be a Sonic-themed fighting game...and all this time, there HAS been one. Apparently, this game never got completed, but it is still playable on Sonic Gems. The control is a little jerky, but the graphics are cool and the animation is pretty awesome too (very cartooney). Anyone who is a fan of Nack/Fang will be pleased to see he is in this game, along with Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite (whoever the hell those two are).

Here' a couple of screen shots from the fighting game:

Yessss, you can FINALLY beat up that little twat Amy. That just totally made my day. Kinda stinks the game is so short - it only has about 10 levels.

Anyway...unless you liked the Game Gear Sonic games, I would suggest staying away from Sonic Gems. But cool overall - it was all games I'd never layed before (that's right - I've never played Vectorman). Sorry if this game is old news - I just found out about it today and I thought it would be neat to share.

I want this on PS2. They released the Sonic Mega Collection (WITH all the Game Gear games added as a bonus) on PS2, so why not this one?? Grrr.... Myself, I mainly want it for Sonic CD.

any early generation handheld gaming system suffered the same problem. Their screens had way less pixels then a home system for the day. Did you notice how samus and mario seemed to double in size on the gameboy? That's because the gameboy resolution is tiny in comparison to the home version counterparts. Heck, I even think a lot of these hand held games look bad on the hand held systems. In order to have the characters have good looking animation they'd have to make them look bigger then a few pixels. Only games that didn't look retarded (that I played) were the first marioland and zelda links awakening because they just kept all the characters tiny in those games.

it was nice that the super gameboy offered color to old gameboy titles, but even so, it didn't sport much =/

I got Sonic Gems Collection for my birthday in February, so that I could play Sonic CD again.
I want to be a dentist.

I'd hate to say this, but I strongly think that "Knuckles Chaotix" should have been a game playable.

This game is worth it for Sonic R alone.

Why would you hate to say it? I'm sure everybody agrees with you about that.

And "Sonic CD", too! Believe me, it's best played on a home console and NOT the PC!

The Sonic Gems version of Sonic CD is a combination of the SEGA CD and PC versions, man!

I rented that game once, Sonic CD was really fun. I also liked Sonic R and all of the bonus art.

Why isn't Knuckles Chaotix on the compilation?

It's a great collection, I bought it for Gamecube when it first released for Sonic CD alone. It's a shame that game never got the attention it deserved due to the Sega CD never really taking off. It's easily in the top 3 as far as Sonic games are concerned.

this is the best sonic collection ever, the menu music is still great as well. as for chaotix...i always thought that was boring since there didnt seem to be anything to do in that game. i really dont remember running into bosses or enemies at all...

What shouldve been thrown in was Sonic the Hedgehog arcade.
