I know this kid in my neighborhood and he's pretending to be a gangsta but the thing is, he's Asian. I thought Asians were known for being geniuses. How could he possibly want to be a stupid gangsta? I blame that darn rap music.

How about.....Blame the person and the parents. The music isnt authorized for kids. c'mon lets be real. Thats just like blaming a murder on a movie that someone watched. It's not the directors fault that the person murdered someone because they saw it in a movie. The person did something and they have to deal with the consequences. point blank. Everyone wants to blame someone else for the reason something bad happens. The person made a conscious decision, so therefor they deal with the consequences like a real man or women. end of story.

Plus, I ABSOLUTELY HATE when people pin stereotypes on someone because of their culture. "I thought asians were supposed to be smart...".. As a culture they are well disciplined, but you have exceptions to the rules. People rebel and what not to what they are taught to believe. I also HATE how black people are always portrayed as failures, rappers, athletes, etc. etc. You have ignorant people and very well educated people wherever the hell you go..period. Most of these mainstream rappers are idiots that were given money to talk about BS so they can make more money...."Hey look, this is what I'm doing to make it, this is the life I'm living." For those who have nothing, it looks like the only way to get out of the shit their dealing with. To people who have nothing, it looks like the golden opportunity because it seems like that rapper is relating to them. It's advertisement (being pimped). You have rappers out here (mostly underground) that actually talk about something (I call that original hip-hop) and tell people, there are other ways out. That doesnt make money for the record label, so thats why it stays underground. I hate the fact that being a thug is so glorified. Being a thug isn't cool, ITS ROUGH AS HELL OUT THERE! Real thugs are people that have nothing and do everything they can to get out of the shit situation they are in. If they are lucky enough to make it out, they do better for themselves because, in all reality, who in the f*ck would want to revert back to that lifestyle. Any real person thats been there would tell you, "Yeah maybe I was kind of a thug at one point in time, but I'm not anymore. I don't have to do those things in order to get by. I have a better opportunity for myself; why would I want to go back to that way of living or glorify a struggle thats unnecessary?". Just like something like Heavy Metal. There is nothing wrong with someone listening to whatever kind of music, but don't blame the music, blame bad parenting. When that child becomes a young adult, then yeah, listen to whatever the hell you want. These kids are having kids because of bad parenting, so in essence, when that child becomes a teenager, there is more bad parenting (given whatever situation), and the cycle continues until a few in the mix decide to be better than their misguided parents.

Well, the way I look at it, parents have always had problems with the music their kids listen to in general. I agree that it's getting worse as time progresses.

My parents didn't have too much of problem with the music my sister and I used listen to on the radio a decade ago, as long as it wasn't too sexually suggestive.

    So to answer your question:

To an extent, yes, but ultimately, its the lack of respect some of these kids CHOOSE to have and even more, the lack of better parenting.

Yes, it seems as if every fourteen-year-old brat these days wants to be a "gangsta". But, to answer the question in the thread title, I don't think that kids are actually getting stupider. There have been clueless, disrespectful, violent, and rebellious youths in every generation; I just think that these days, people are more aware of them because the media is so obsessed with them.

Yep, that's pretty much it........just for the record I'm 14 but I don't even like the whole "gangsta" thing.

Also, just for the record I turn 15 tomorrow! YEAH!

Everywhere, everyone's the same, they're all the freaking same with those damn big hats and stupid looking sweaters they bought at West 49 and they've got the hood going over their hat, then I see a bunch of emo kids with the most dumbass hairstyle wearing some Ramones shirt they got at Hot Topic, thinking they're totally punk, yet they have no idea who the Ramones are, but bought it 'cause "it looks cool".

Just like with kids and teenagers wearing their baggy pants low around their hips with their underwear showing, which has been going on since the very early 1990s, or even the late 1980s! Now that's a VERY long time for a fad!
